Americans Think About Sex 8 Times a Day, Says Study

It’s probably not a surprise that American frequently have sex on our minds. What might surprise you, however, is just how many times in a day.

New survey results recently released by OnePoll and Pure Romance suggest that Americans may, in fact, have sex on the brain more than you think. Asking 2,000 Americans about how frequently they think about doing the horizontal limbo, those questioned came back with an answer that may shock some more prudish people.

On average, American men and women think about sex a whopping eight times a day. And that's not all! Going even further than that, those surveyed said that they actually spoke out on the topic of sex an average of five times a day. That's sure to create some hubbub around the water cooler (and at least it's not something less interesting, like fantasy football or assorted political ramblings.)

Decades after the conclusion of the sexual revolution and free love movement of the 1960s and 1970s, it seems that most citizens under the red, white, and blue banner are just fine being open about their sexual activities. A sizable majority of those polled – or 65 percent – said that they were comfortable sharing tidbits related to their sex life with others. Beyond that, almost a third of the adults replied that they were “very comfortable” with doing so.

It appears that talking about sex (or thinking about it all day) is no longer the taboo that it once was, which is certainly a great thing for members of both genders. However, there is definitely some lingering stigma or social pressures surrounding the so-called “dirty deed,” according to Pure Romance founder Patty Brisben.

“Speaking openly about sex is so important because there are still a lot of people who find the subject taboo,” Brisben told DailyMail. If we’re being honest about sexual desire and sexual health – even if it’s just a casual conversation with friends – we’re helping fight that stigma, one conversation at a time.”

Brisben and others represent a change toward a more sex-positive view of our lives in the bedroom.

A majority of Americans, 54 percent in fact, have at one point or another, asked someone about  sex. Some ask their friends, some ask their family, some ask their significant others, and some ask the internet. As you might guess, the answers end up in many different directions.
