Breaking Bad Stars Have Made a Mezcal

“Breaking Bad's" Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are back, but not with another season of “Breaking Bad.” Or a “Breaking Bad” film. Or even another television show altogether.

No, instead of cooking crystal meth, cable TV’s most dysfunctional pair of drug dealers has re-teamed to make some booze. Cranston and Paul took to Instagram to announce they’re releasing their own mezcal brand, Dos Hombres.

Distilling Bad

The two actors shared the news via a joint post on Instagram. In the posts, they talked about how they basically had the time of their lives working together on “Breaking Bad” (which is honestly a relief to hear, given how poisonous their characters’ relationship was) and that when the show was ending they started considering future projects they could collaborate on.

Once they settled on the idea of creating a “real, artisanal mezcal made-by-hand in Mexico,” it was time to get to work. Cranston and Paul traveled to Oaxaca in central Mexico, which sits more than 1500 meters above sea level.

“We searched high and low all over Oaxaca,” the post says, “met incredible people along the way and after a beautiful yet grueling [sic] search throughout that majestic landscape we believed we may have found our place. Our Mezcal. It was on a dirt road, in a tiny village, hours away from the center of town, we found it and it was perfect. Holy shit it was perfect. We looked at each other and just simply nodded. This is it. We named it Dos Hombres — two guys on a quest.”

So basically it’s the adventures of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, but without the trail of death and personal destruction and accompanying television show.

Breaking Mad

The fact that there isn’t a sequel on the way was an issue for a lot of “Breaking Bad” fans, who had figured teaser Instagram posts were a sign that Cranston and Paul were making a “Breaking Bad” film.

“OK. Disappointment level is quite high,” wrote one fan on Cranston’s post of the reveal.

“My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined,” another commented.

Basically, if you caught any wind of this beforehand without knowing what Cranston and Paul were up to, you were likely going to feel let down.

For the rest of us, we get what’s hopefully a really great mezcal (there are currently no reviews on Mezcal Reviews), and the feel-good vibes of two lead actors from one of the best television shows in recent memory sharing the bromance we always wanted for them.
