Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson May Join Marvel Universe

The Great One. The People's Champion. The Brahma Bull. The Scorpion King. Most recently, Luke Hobbs in box office breakout hit “Hobbs & Shaw.” Whatever name you want to give to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it's pretty obvious that the man is one of the biggest (literally) A-list actors in the game today. And he may be joining Marvel soon.

Comic book fans took a hard double-take when Robert Liefeld — the man who created comic-book favorite Deadpool shared a post on Instagram. The IG post was a collage of Johnson standing next to two shots of Garrison Kane, one of Cable's “Clan Chosen” in the pages of the cape-and-cowl escapades.

After sharing the image on Twitter, it didn't take too long for The Rock to tweet out a reply, playing coy with the comic book creator as he did so.

“Dearest Rob, thank you amigo. It’s true, in @HobbsAndShaw, I have insanely outstanding chemistry with our familiar friend. Since you created the characters, how does one Garrison Kane get alone with one [Robert Liefeld].”

And of course, the “familiar friend” being alluded to is likely none other than Ryan Reynolds, the “Merc with the Mouth” himself. Liefeld quickly admitted to his glee — and his plan of action in a follow up tweet, one which capped off the conversation.

“1000% guilty of looking at ways to get THE MAN into the gig!!!” he gushed.

If this deal does work out, The Rock will fit neatly into a tailor-made role. And it seems that fans are all for it.

Given that the most recent Deadpool sequel and the high-octane action-thriller that is “Hobbs & Shaw” were directed by the same man — David Leitch — and that the extremely charismatic and comical Ryan Reynolds also appeared in both projects, there may be just enough parts in place to swing The Rock into a brand new film franchise.

Despite all of the naysayers, however, it looks like Liefeld and Johnson may just be the pair to bring the former WWE champion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
