Nick Jonas and John Varvatos Team Up for Villa One Tequila Launch: 'This Is Life As It Should Be'

Music icon Nick Jonas and fashion legend John Varvatos turned a relaxing getaway to Mexico into a full-fledged business venture.

The pair, known already for their past collaborations, have just announced that they're encouraging the world to celebrate "life as it should be" with their new tequila brand, Villa One. 

During an exclusive tasting, Jonas said that his experience in Cabo alongside Varvatos, celebrating with friends and family, is really where they drew inspiration for the product.

"This is life as it should be ... It was quite simply our anthem from there on out," he says. "And Villa One was the name of the villa we were staying at in Cabo so it had a really authentic beginning.

He goes on, stating that "Villa One is more of a state of mind."

"Our vision with this tequila, at least for me and my experiences, has been a lot like drinking champagne. It seems like I share it with friends, when I’m celebrating, there's always a good memory attached to it. We want to bring that kind of experience to Villa One as a brand, specifically a tequila brand.”

Varvatos shared similar sentiments, noting that the name wasn't as much about the place they stayed, but more about "the moment in time" that they had.

"We thought about all the places that we shared good moments, not just us, but our friends and family," he added. "It could be two people sitting on some little beach, or it could be any place in the world."

Villa One

Available in Silver, Reposado and Añejo expressions, Villa One will begin its national rollout across major cities in the U.S. in the coming weeks. And if you're wondering what exactly sets Villa One apart from, well, every other tequila brand out there, there are two words: Arturo Fuentes. The Master Distiller, known as "the godfather of tequila," led all things production-related for the brand, ensuring the taste stood out above the rest with its use of 100 percent agave sourced from both the Highland and Lowland regions of Mexico.

While Jonas and Varvatos both contributed to the overall design of the Villa One bottle, they made sure their names were nowhere to be found upon its release.

"You don’t have to scream and yell about it if it’s really good," says Varvatos. "We felt like it needs to stand on its own. We’re going to be behind it, involved every step of the way, partners in it, but the product is what will last out there."

Looking for some cocktail recommendations with Villa One? Well, Jonas, who landed on the Reposado as his (and wife Priyanka Chopra's) personal favorite, had a few to share:

“Reposado on the rocks with an orange wedge and a little bit of club soda" is a go-to of his, "or Añejo with a little bit of chocolate bitters and an orange peel.” And when it comes to the Silver, he says you can't go wrong with drinking it the old fashioned way. 

“Tequila was made famous by doing shots," adds Jonas, "and the silver is great to shoot.”

Salt and lime, not required.
