Teachers Turning to Sugar Daddy Dating Sites to Supplement Income

It’s no secret that teaching isn’t exactly the highest paying career out there. As it turns out, many American educators are supplementing their incomes in ways you might not expect — on Sugar Daddy dating sites.

According to Yahoo, teachers are now turning to their sugar daddies for some extra cash, sometimes being paid thousands of dollars.

SeekingArrangement is one of the leading sites allowing sugar daddies to hook up with prospective sugar babies, and by their estimates, the average sugar baby earns about $2,800. Being showered with cash, expensive clothing and jewelry, and other pay-for-play patronage can apparently be both intoxicating and empowering for some of the sugar babies, by all accounts.

Lisa, a pseudonym for an Arizona professor, was appalled to find that her starting salary as an educator would be a modest $33,000, a sum she described as “nothing.” After a few men at her bartending gig suggested the site, Lisa created a SeekingArrangement profile and never looked back.

“I was afraid that it was like prostitution,” she said.

However, her clients seemingly treated her with respect, and some admitted to a desire for a longer-term relationship. And, of course, there was the money. “They all had money... and they were just like, ‘I want to share what I have,” Lisa said.

Then there's Nolah, a teacher in Nevada, who prefers one-off dates to lengthy and complicated entanglements. Noting that several of her colleagues also hold down second jobs as cocktail waitresses and the like, she decided to do something a little out of the ordinary instead. 

“I have my own personal minimum that I will take for my time, and that’s just me personally because that’s not worth it for me to get my hair all pretty and put clothes on and leave my house for a hundred bucks,” Nolah said. “I’m not doing that... So, I’ve been gifted anywhere from $300 to $10,000. So, it just depends on what our arrangement is and what we’re doing.”

The obvious question is: is sex involved? And the answer is often yes, although many women say that it's not simply transactional. A quick look at reddit's forums related to the “sugar lifestyle” quickly reveals that almost all posters are engaged in sexual relationships with their sugar daddies. It makes sense that if older men are spending hundreds, or thousands of dollars to date younger women, sex might be on the menu.

That being said, however, SeekingArrangement firmly points out that they stand firmly against “any unlawful use of the site, including escorting, prostitution and human trafficking.”
