With all there is to learn and do, becoming a stylish man can sometimes seem like a mythical quest.

It's not – it's easy if you know what you're looking for.

That being said, I'd understand if you didn't want to shock your friends and family with a sudden evolution. You might be faced with comments like “Wow, dressed for an interview?” or worse, “Do you think you're better than us?”

1. Ditch Those Ugly Sneakers

The very first thing you can change about your appearance is your footwear. I've seen guys wearing suits and raggedy sneakers, and I can't begin to tell you how much this hurts to watch.

I usually recommend a classic pair of Balmoral Oxfords to start with, but that's a bit formal for our purposes. Instead, we're going to focus on how to upgrade your casual game.

black chelsea boots

The Chelsea boot is an ideal choice for a man looking for a bit of sleekness.

For the subtlest approach, I'd go with leather sneakers. There are all kinds out there – including those with broguing! What I love about these is that it's a tangible jump in style without drawing attention.

If you want to be a tad bolder, you can opt for some Chukka or Chelsea boots – the latter having a bit more elegance thanks to how sleek it is.

Then, we have dress shoes – again, we're going casual here. You're going to want some Monk Straps or Wing Tips (AKA Full Brogues). Their beauty lies with their versatility. They'd go as well with a navy or charcoal suit as they would with a pair of jeans!

2. Use Solid T-Shirts

A big mistake men make most of the time is using Graphic T-shirts. This is how boys dress, not men.

That's why the next phase in your seamless transformation is to ditch the kid shirts and replace them with some simple, solid T-shirts. A crew neck is fine if you're going for that Marlon Brando look, but I'm partial to the v-neck because I can show off a sliver of man-cleavage without going too far.

A simple T-shirt will give your look a drastic upgrade without drawing any leering eyes.

As far as colors go, any solid color can do you well. Personally, I'd go with navy, black, and even white as starter colors.

3. Upgrading Your Dress Shirts

I'm willing to bet that you've accrued a motley assortment of shirts over the years. Maybe you've collected a few oversized dress shirts and old sports shirts. It's time to change that.

We're heading into aggressively stylish territory here, but hear me out! This is where you can have a bit of fun with colors and patterns in order to keep that casual appearance.

When it comes to dress shirts, stay away from sleek white and light blue. Yes, I usually recommend them as foundation pieces for the professional interchangeable wardrobe, but that's not what we're going for.

Instead, go with a rougher-looking weave. Oxford and Twill are great for giving your shirt a bit more of a laid back vibe.

What about patterns? I'm a huge advocate for checks. We're talking Glen checks, Prince of Wales, even Windowpane if you can find it (they're more common on suits).

4. Throw Out Those Worn Out Jeans

Alright, gentlemen, this seamless men's style tip is a favorite of mine. If the goal is to make a soft transition, then I cannot recommend chinos enough.

A pair of navy chinos are just as good as jeans, and then some. You could wear them with a simple T-shirt, or a casual sports jacket and a dress shirt.

Chinos are a simple way to go from ordinary to extraordinary.

Don't stop at navy, there are loads of colors to choose from. If you want to be even more aggressive, try your luck with some light gray or white trousers. When it comes to texture, you can play it safe with a smooth look, but something like twill gives off the impression of denim for added interchangeability.

5. Using A Bomber Jacket

You probably lived with an old, torn-up denim jacket for some time. It's time to dump that thing in favor of something elegant, casual, and new.

Enter the bomber jacket.

This thing has a proud military heritage dating back to World War I. Over the course of the century, it's developed into a go-to item for the casually-stylish man. Black, brown, or olive are classic colors when it comes to this garment. It also comes in varying weights, so you can make a choice based on your climate.

6. From Hoodies To Sweaters

This seamless style tip is directed at a lot of… overly-casual gents that I see. Ditch the hoodie – especially if it has logos. Just like Graphic T-shirts, it speaks to the boy rather than the man.

There are LOADS of sweaters to choose from. As far as seamless men's style tips go, this one can be a tad overwhelming.

You can start off with a simple v-neck or crew cut sweater, both of which go well with a collared shirt.

The right sweater can give your outfit a slight edge – and that's all you need.

If you're going for the intellectual air with added bulk, cardigans are a solid choice. They're useful in every season with the exception of summer. Cardigans are also more similar to jackets in that they can open up, allowing for easy access.

The difference in weave tends to lie between ribbed and plain sweaters. Ribbed variations offer a thicker garment with more protection from the cold, while the latter is a bit cooler. Choose wisely!

7. No Watch? Big Mistake

Anyone who follows my channel probably knows that I LOVE timepieces. I admit that I've bought a load of them – from cheap to expensive.

Watches send across an undeniable message of power.

There's a reason for it – men's watches are simultaneously the most subtle and most powerful tool in your armory. Not only are they acceptable in any circumstance, but they serve as an artistic expression. You can find one that really speaks to your personality!

There are loads of options. Click here to explore them in-depth.
