Dwayne The Rock Johnson Has Finally Named His Tequila and Given It a Release Date

First, it was George Clooney with his tequila. Then Ryan Reynolds got involved in the gin game. And then Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul revealed they’d developed their own mezcal. For an actor in 2019, it seems breaking into films and cable television is just the first step — the second is releasing your own spirit.

Now Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is getting in on the action. For some time, the film star has been working on releasing his own tequila. And finally, it has a name — Teremana Tequila — The Rock announced the news on Instagram on October 30.

Tere What Now?

The Rock has been developing a tequila brand for years, and made waves earlier in 2019 when he Instagrammed himself tasting a bunch of batches fresh out of the barrel. Back then, it looked like we might get to taste it ourselves before the new year — but the spirit still didn’t have a name.

Now, The Rock is back on the ‘Gram to introduce the world to Teremana Tequila. The actor explained the branding in the post: “TERA means of the earth and MANA is our powerful Polynesian spirit that guides us. Spirit of the earth.

“Our goal is to create a tequila that is the best of quality and taste, but done the right way — by hand,” he continued. “Small batch, handcrafted tequila from our Teremana blue agave, maturing in the highlands of Jalisco [a western Mexican state that fringes the Pacific Ocean], for everyone to enjoy.

“After years of hard work, this blessing is truly a dream come true — but it’s just the beginning and there's much work to be done. I’m committed with my team to bring you the best tequila, because quality and legacy are what matter most.”

The accompanying photo shows the Rock standing out the front of the newly named distillery with a crowd of Teremana staff.

The name is actually different to what The Rock originally intended, after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected his 2018 application to title the brand “Mana”, The Blast reported at the time.

You Just Have to Wait a Little Bit Longer...

The (slightly) bad news is that you’ll now have to wait a little bit longer to try this superstar tipple, with the post ending in #Q12020 to indicate its release date has slipped into next year.

Oh well, back to the Dos Hombres in the meantime.
