Atlantic City

One of America’s most famous and most-visited coastal resorts has to be New Jersey’s Atlantic City. The Boardwalk is home to most of the top attractions, measuring four miles in length and dating back to 1870. The Steel Pier amusement park is great for visitors, old and young, with rides to suit people of all ages. Ride the ferris wheel for a sedate panoramic view over the city or ride the electric tram along the Boardwalk’s length. Why not take one of the traditional rolling chairs for a totally unique experience, or see marine life up close at the aquarium. You should also check out the celebrity handprints at the Entrance To The Stars and visit the glitzy Borgata hotel and casino where you can wager on one of your favorite table games.

Cape May

Cape May, right on the southern tip of the state hit its heyday during the 1700s and 1800s when it was a fashionable resort. No less than six presidents of the United States had their summer homes here, drawn by its fine beaches. Emlen Physick Estate is one of the top examples of Victorian properties here. Built in the 1870s, this 18 room mansion was constructed in the American Stick architectural style. You can also take a harbor tour on a schooner to see whales and dolphins in Delaware Bay.

Liberty State Park

Liberty State Park overlooks Ellis Island, Liberty Island and Upper New York Bay, encompassing over 1000 acres of waterside landscape. Not only can you enjoy panoramic views here, you’ll also be able to discover many interesting monuments and memorials such as Empty Sky, dedicated to the memory of New Jersey’s 9/11 victims and Liberation which memorializes the Holocaust.

Princeton and the Battlefield State Park

Princeton enjoys an international reputation thanks to its famous university, and its 1600 acres of grounds are a great place to wander and explore, or even to take a tour run by students. While you’re here, head to the Battlefield State Park where the 1777 Battle of Princeton was held in which Washington was victorious over the British army. The Clarke House Museum is also worth a visit. This one-time hospital is home to a memorial which marks the final resting place of both American and British soldiers of the conflict.

Battleship New Jersey

Battleship New Jersey is the most decorated vessel in the US Navy and is now a floating museum on the Delaware River. Take a guided tour of the ship and see displays and exhibits relating to the vessel’s involvement in conflicts dating from 1942 to the 1980s. You can also visit the bridge from which Admiral Halsey took command over the Pacific Fleet.

The Adventure Aquarium

If you’re traveling with the kids, or if you just love wildlife attractions, you’ll enjoy a visit to the Adventure Aquarium. This is one of the USA’s top aquatic educational facilities and it’s home to over 8500 different marine species. You can see stingrays, penguins, sea turtles and sharks, as well as hippos! Go behind the scenes on a special tour to get up close to some of the marine life.

Cape May County Park & Zoo

Another popular animal attraction in New Jersey is the Cape May County Park and Zoo. It’s free to get in, and you can see both exotic and native species including lions, giraffes, lemurs, zebra and eagles. There are also lots of other things to do here, including hiking, biking, tennis and volleyball to keep the family busy all day long.

Thomas Edison National Historical Park

This was where movie cameras, batteries and sound recordings were invented, and a visit here allows you to see the labs up close as well as to see vintage movies and view original artifacts. Take an audio tour or follow a guide, but remember to come early or you’ll miss out on your chance at a ticket.
