Our Master Bathroom Before & After

When I walked into the master bedroom of our house for the first time, I was completely sold.

Sure there were pedestal sinks with zero bathroom storage and yes there was a weird mini-fridge where it looks like a linen closet used to be, but we saw potential. Just like we did with the other main rooms of the house, we worked closely with Martha Mulholland to design the best master bathroom we could while also leaving the existing bathtub and enhancing the homes historic features.

I knew I wanted to hold on to the bright, white walls in this space and bring the room up to date with modern light fixtures and a fresh marble counter.

Martha introduced us to td[s] who custom built our vanity to fit the space perfectly. In the before image you can see a little blank space between the toilet room door and the vanity where we built in custom shelves and a pull out drawer that is home to my hair tools. The shelf pulls out and all of the tools are plugged in. We also worked together to design custom mirrors that felt specific to the era of the home. The rug in our bathroom is one that we found a very long time ago at a vintage market. I think one of my favorite pieces in the bathroom is the antique french stool that Martha found from Pamono which you can see next to the bath tub.

I’m all about a good vanity. Even during my college years I would always create a place to sit and do my make-up. Even if it was a tiny table mirror on top of a dresser, there is something very feminine about having your own little space to sit and do your make-up. I had my eye on this Gio Ponti mirror for many years and told Martha I had to have it somewhere in the house. I love that we chose to place it here because it elongates the hallway that connects my closet and master bedroom to the bathroom. To the left of my vanity is the master bedroom and to the right is an additional bonus room that we named “the Pamper Room” which I will give a tour of separately!
