We frequently walk by the beaches near our home, but it had been a long time since we experienced the coast from the other perspective. That all changed on Thomas’ birthday recently, when we celebrated with an early evening boat ride from Isle of Palms marina. It was Clementine’s first time on a boat and, once she got used to her life jacket, she loved taking in the sights and feeling the wind in her curly hair! The change of scenery was deeply refreshing and we were delighted by the sight of dolphins and all different types of sea birds. When dressing for a boat ride, layering is key. I brought along a striped long-sleeve tee to slip over my dress when the breeze picked up, and it struck the perfect balance. I rounded up some other easy layering pieces, ready for any on-the-water adventures you may have coming up, below.
Lightweight Sweater
Even on the warmest days, it can get chilly out on the water. Whether I’m wearing a dress or denim, I always bring a lightweight sweater with me, like this striped one, to throw on as I need it.

Raffia Hat
Since there is not much shade to be found on a boat, I like to bring along a hat for a little extra sun protection. This raffia hat with navy trim is the perfect size–the brim is wide enough to keep your face shaded, but it won’t fly away in the wind.
