5 Trending Fall Haircuts For A Fresh Start

There's not a hairdresser in the world who will tell you that this fall is anything close to ordinary. From school closures to continued WFH routines, the crisp fall season just isn't quite the same when you start your day on Zoom. But there is one thing that can help usher in a fresh start: a professional haircut.

That's because during this time of general uncertainty and anxiety, small acts of self-care — like a getting a (safe) salon haircut or ordering a new cardigan to throw on your shoulders for video conferences — have the ability to spark a significant amount of joy.

If you're looking to make a change, we've compiled a gallery showing the five biggest haircut trends, from the blunt lob taking over L.A. to the feathered layers that will instantly revive your quarantine grow-out. To see the the full style forecast, scroll ahead.

Clavicle Lob

Chrissy Teigen recently debuted her clavicle-skimming lob, and the blunt, mid-length cut is now a hot request in safely-reopened salons across the country. Here, Miami-based hair pro Julien Meca, out of IGK salon, shows the perfect example in profile: a blunt lob that grazes the clavicle with a slight A-line tilt.

Long Layers

Aussie hairstylist Jaiden Ogden (out of Edwards and Co. salon) calls this cut a "curl reshape" — which is basically cutting long, gradual, face-framing layers into dry hair. Most stylists agree that if your hair is curly, it's best to take scissors to it when it's dry. That way you get the perfect shape and full-bounce of the curls — without accidentally going too short.

Razor Dusting

If your last haircut was pre-quarantine (and you're actually loving the extra inches) a dusting will keep the ends blunt and crisp, without sacrificing too much length. NYC-based hair pro Erickson Arrunategui says that his clients with mid-length and longer hair are asking for razor dustings for fall maintenance.

Feathered Bangs

If you've been considering bangs for a while, fall is the perfect time to give them a spin. For one, the humidity index goes down, meaning less frizz , and it pairs perfectly with the '70s vintage Levis in your closet. This feathered bang by L.A.-based stylist Christopher Hill creates a ton of built-in body and movement in an otherwise-standard mid-length cut.

Rounded Bob

When in doubt, the rounded bob is always in style. The anatomy of the classic cut is simple: A well-shaped bob with a fringe bang across the forehead. Here, L.A.-based curl expert Joelis proves that a rounded shape might just be the chicest post-quarantine style refresh.
