The 8 Daily Habits That Made My Life Better

  1. 10&10 list
  2. Weekly chiropractor visit
  3. Morning yoga
  4. Taking multivitamins
  5. Going for daily walks
  6. Kayaking every weekend
  7. Tracking EVERYTHING
  8. Working out with my son

OK – let's get into it.

Daily Habit #1. The 10&10 List

blank list

Start your day off by knocking out the easy wins.

The 10&10 list includes 10 tasks you can accomplish in 10 minutes or less. It's a great way to fill your day with accomplishments.

Here are some examples:

  • Calling a friend to check on them.
  • Putting old items in your car to donate later.
  • Answering an urgent work email.
  • Reading 4-5 pages of a book.
  • Meditating.

You could theoretically accomplish the list at any point in the day. However, I do mine each morning. Why? It starts my day off with a bang. I always feel a morale boost knowing I've achieved 10 new objectives before most people are awake.

The 10&10 list is a simple strategy that you can leverage for a daily morale boost.

Daily Habit #2. Weekly Chiropractor Visits

Take the right measures to strengthen your back, or you'll end up like me!

I suffer from hereditary back problems – and they are compounded by constant wear-and-tear over the years.

I made things worse during my time in the Marines by carrying 60-70 pounds on my back regularly. Even after returning to civilian life, I had a habit of carrying heavy loads.

The result? My quads and hamstrings are too tight, making back pain a constant reality.

And I'm not alone – 31 million Americans experience back pain at any given moment. However, 47% of Americans don't trust chiropractors!

My chiropractor has helped me improve my circulation, loosen tight muscles, decrease my back pain, and much more.

She also keeps me accountable. Since it's a consistent part of my week, I have no excuse when it comes to the stretches she assigns for me at home.

Daily Habit #3. Morning Yoga

Think Yoga is for women? Think again!

Out of the 20.4 million American yoga practitioners, only 18% are men.

A lot of guys think it's too feminine or that their bodies aren't built for it.

Gentlemen – you're wrong. I practice yoga every single day.

The benefits I've found:

  • Increased flexibility
  • Increased muscle toning
  • Improved circulatory health
  • Weight loss

There are also different types of yoga for different preferences. Vinyasa Yoga is ideal for beginners because there is more dynamic movement involved.

Daily Habit #4. Taking Multivitamins

97% of men don't get enough Vitamin D – the key to having strong bones and 70% of men don't get enough Vitamin E so their cells are vulnerable to free radicals.

The more we age, the more nutrition we require.

It can be difficult to get everything you need from your daily meals. The right multivitamins can help get you to acquire those missing nutrients.

The good news? Since 2018, 73% of men reported taking dietary supplements.

It's time to join the party. It's as easy as taking two a day!

Daily Habit #5. Going For Walks

walk with confidence

Never underestimate the power of a simple, 30-minute walk.

This was a new one for me.

I'm usually a runner.

However, when my wife suggested we change things up and take a walk, I obliged. I didn't regret it!

Walking doesn't seem like much, but looks aren't everything.

Walking for 30 minutes a day, five days a week can knock your risk for heart disease down by 19%.

As a low-level exercise – walking also allowed me to focus my mind. I was able to hone my mind. I listened to audiobooks and was able to pick up more information than I would with high-intensity workouts.

Walking relaxes you, it yields health benefits – and it helps you listen better.

Daily Habit #6. Kayaking

man kayaking

Time with the family, the outdoors, and exercise? Kayaking is the way to go.

My family and I have been going kayaking every weekend. The routine is simple: We jump in the car, find a lake, and put the kayaks out.

There are exactly 15,074 documented lakes in Wisconsin – we're not lacking for choices.

We're able to choose one that's relatively isolated and have a private family day out.

Kayaking is a killer cardio exercise. It works out your arms, back, shoulders, and chest. Since rowing is a low-intensity exercise, it means that your joints are less prone to injury.

This goes beyond mere exercise. Kayaking provided another way for me to spend quality time with my family.

Despite what is happening in the world, there are plenty of ways to spend time with the people who matter to you if you take the right precautions.

Daily Habit #7. Tracking Everything

smart watch men

1 in 5 Americans admit to tracking their health using apps – be it exercise, sleep, or nutrition. Gents, I'm part of that group and I'm proud of it.

It's been a huge help in improving my sleep quality. Even though I go to bed early enough to get 8 hours of sleep, I wake up frequently throughout the night.

Sometimes the dog jumps into bed. Or my kids will occasionally sneak in as well.

With my Oura Ring, I was able to see precisely how bad I was – and my sleep quality was just over 60%. That information allows me to hone in on specific goals and ultimately fix my sleep schedule.

The point I'm trying to make is that tracking your health using technology lets you gamify. You get tangible data about your current status and you can take steps to improve yourself.

Daily Habit #8. Working Out With My Son

My son holds me accountable. When we set a time to work out, he's always there 15 minutes prior and waiting. There's no excuse for me failing to show up and work out.

He also pushes me to do better.

When I tried keeping up with him on 40-yard sprints, I ended up pulling a hamstring that put me out of commission for a few days. I may surpass him on the bench, but he's got me beat in almost every other exercise.

Working out with somebody holds you accountable while improving your relationship.

Working out with someone else is about more than the competition, though. It's a reliable way to consistently build relationships.

It's rewarding to see someone you care about make progress.
