Natural Hair Care Routine:

The No. 1 Wash Day SUPERFOOD for Hair Growth | EfikZara

Zara is back on CurlyNikki! She’s a fabulous naturalista who shares her natural hair journey with her followers. That includes more than 170K subscribers (aka ZeeStarz) on her EfikZara YouTube channel!

Although Zara admits that “doing one’s hair on camera is difficult,” she wanted to give ZeeStarz (read the intro!) a much-requested look at exactly how she takes care of her hair.

So, today, she’s showing us how she takes her hair from “crusty to popping! She’s letting us in on her ENTIRE pre-poo natural hair care routine, including her favorite superfood for hair growth – ambunu!

Zara lays it all bare for us, showing us the highs and lows of how she goes about prepping her hair for shampooing. One high point is the satisfaction she gets from her long, strong, beautifully detangled type 4 hair. We see that alongside the very real low of “dense-hair struggles” that go with having to detangle long, thick hair.

Go ahead and JUMP RIGHT INTO THE VIDEO. It’s got a treat at the end – Zara shows off the full length of her beautiful hair once the pre-poo detangling process is complete!

Wash Day Routine for Natural Hair Growth – No Tangles!

Zara’s natural hair care routine reveals that she is really very particular about what she does to her hair (and scalp). Her routine is designed to ensure she is taking care of her hair in the best possible way.

She points out why she is so dedicated to natural hair pre-pooing – it prevents unnecessary loss of hair from snags, tangling, single strand knots, and breakage.

Also, while Zara’s low porosity hair may be less susceptible to hygral fatigue, she does caution that air drying (which she always does since she hasn’t used heat on her hair in years) could also lead to hygral fatigue in low porosity hair, so paying attention to your hair is vital.

Never heard of hygral fatigue? Check the video, Zara explains what it is and why you should be wary of it.

If you’ve been struggling to find a natural hair daily routine that works for your hair, you’re in luck! In this video, Zara introduces us to her natural hair routine calendar which she describes as a “comprehensive Extreme Hair Growth Calendar.” It comes in four different variations to suit different hair issues. The pre-pre-poo step: Zara’s very own carrot oil infusion

Before actually starting on the pre-poo the first step in Zara’s wash day routine -is to apply a penetrative carrot oil infusion to her hair. It’s her own recipe from her popular Recipe Bible (link in video!) and it’s super versatile.

Zara uses her carrot oil as an oil rinse and as a sealant in her LOC method, admitting that it has helped her overcome chronically dry hair. She even uses it on her skin right after showering while her skin is still damp.

She starts her pre-pre-poo by sectioning her hair for greater control and to streamline the whole detangling process. By the way, you may be surprised (shocked!) at the amount of carrot oil Zara uses – really, she uses a lot of oil and admits she loves using oil on her type 4 hair.

However, Zara does have a video for those who prefer to not use oil on their natural hair or simply can’t use oil on their hair for whatever reason. That video was featured on CurlyNikki – check it out here: How to Grow Natural Hair Fast Without Oils or Butters by Zara! (Part 1)

Next comes the pre-poo: Ambunu gel superfood for hair growth

Ambunu is a much-loved, multi-purpose herb from West Africa. It gets its superfood for hair growth status thanks to it being nutrient-dense. Just as with the carrot oil infusion, the ambunu gel Zara uses is from her own Recipe Bible which she links us to in the video.

And, again, just as with the carrot oil, Zara applies the ambunu gel very generously to her coils to prevent any damage during the process of undoing and detangling her twists. It also helps to nourish her scalp, doing double duty in her natural hair care routine.

Why does she use as much of these products as she does? Well, she explains that her natural hair growth journey includes not putting her hair under stress. The use of carrot oil and ambunu gel for lubrication helps to prevent stress on her hair and scalp during detangling as she prepares her hair for shampooing.

She does give us a heads-up, however, by reminding us that ambunu is naturally rich in amino acids (the building blocks of protein). Too much protein can lead to protein overload and hair that ends up stiff and brittle. Zara definitely advises against keeping your ambunu pre-poo gel in your hair for too long.

Time for detangling!

Zara has A LOT of hair and it’s been in twists for more than a month, so the detangling process takes quite a (long) while. Luckily the carrot oil and ambunu gel provide plenty of slip to make the detangling easier on both Zara and her hair.

She actually admits that having as much hair as she does can be somewhat stressful and requires patience, especially when it comes to detangling.

Using a combination of her fingers (she admit she hates finger detangling – lol!) and her favorite tool (a detangling brush), she slowly works her way through each section of her hair. She sets a really good example as she urges us not to rush detangling the sections – especially as we near the end of the process. Take your time and be super gentle with your hair!
