Bumble Launches In-App Video Calling

While Bumble has already started offering a variety of features from Bumble BFF for strictly platonic relationships to Bumble Bizz for networking with business-minded connections, the newest feature might be raising some eyebrows. Do we really want to be able to video call our prospective dates? Yeah, of course we do! That way, we know who actually looks like their photos before you meet up. 

The primary difference between Bumble and other dating apps is that female users are empowered to make the first move. With the new in-app video calling or voice calling functionality, users can decide whether or not to start such a conversation after having matched with a prospective partner.

According to Bumble, “To start a call, you first have to match with someone. Once you’ve matched, a video icon and phone icon will appear in the top right-hand corner of your conversation screen. Women get the option to call as soon as they match with someone — and this can count as their first move. Men get the option to call only after a first move has been made.”

Always considering the circumstances that may take place outside of the confines of their app environment, the love and lifestyle team behind Bumble also points out a few advantages to using video and voice calls. For starters, this means that no phone numbers are being exchanged, so if a date goes bad, personal privacy is protected in the long term. 

Video and voice calls on Bumble won't be limited to the primary Bumble Date service, either. Those wearing their bespoke suit and designer tie to a business can video conference while using the Bumble Bizz service, and those who aren't looking for a little romance but rather a little bit of girl-talk – or bro time – can also set up a voice or video call via Bumble BFF.

For many users, new features like these might be exactly what is needed to choose to swipe right (or left).
