Supernatural Star Jared Padalecki Starring in Walker Texas Ranger Reboot

When Chuck Norris boots a television show, it stays booted. Well, that's not necessarily true, as fan-favorite TV series “Walker, Texas Ranger” was finally canceled after eight seasons. However, there’s good news for fans who don’t mind watching the show without the legend.

According to Deadline, the iconic 1990s action drama is set to be reinvented and reinvigorated in the form of a modern reboot. The creative minds behind the project, Anna Fricke, Dan Lin, and Dan Spilo, are backed by CBS TV Studios, with The CW and CBS the rumored landing spots for this remake of an American classic.

While the original “Walker, Texas Ranger” was more episodic in nature, owing to the broadcasting technology of the time, it's almost a certainty that the reboot, starring “Supernatural” actor Jared Padalecki, will adopt a more serialized format, producing longer and richer story arcs in the process. Padalecki is considered to be a major heartthrob for his role in the spooky investigative series which made him famous and might be a big enough name to impress casual fans and hardcore Walker-ites alike.

Padalecki's signature character of Sam Winchester isn't quite retired yet, however, so it's unlikely that we'll see a new “Walker, Texas Ranger” in 2019. Padalecki is currently busy filming his last 20 episodes in order to close the book on “Supernatural,” so fans looking forward to his new role as one of the most macho yet sensitive characters in recent TV history, might have to wait a while.

Chuck Norris purists may not be entirely pleased with the casting choice, but Jared Padalecki's resume speaks for itself. Sure, he may have been eye candy in “Gilmore Girls”, but he also brought some serious masculine gravitas to Sam Winchester. The name itself sounds like one of Cordell Walker's old Marine Corps buddies.

Whether you're looking forward to watching a Cordell Walker dispose of some street thugs or seeing an ex-Marine, now-Texas Ranger solve some intricate mysteries, stay tuned for this reboot. We could see this show as early as summer of 2020.
