Hasbro Releases New Ms. Monopoly Giving Women an Edge Over Men
Monopoly has already developed a reputation as a “family fight game” in many circles, with parents tearing their hair out over fictional mortgages and children squabbling over which little tiny metal piece would represent them. However, Hasbro’s newest version, “Ms. Monopoly” has sparked a different fight.

Hasbro’s latest version of Monopoly — Ms. Monopoly is all about girl-power, including a rule which states that female players collect $240 whenever their piece passes GO, whereas men collect the standard $200.
According to CNN, this move is meant to be historic in some fashion. It is described as being the very first board game in which women make more than men, in “a fun new take that creates a world where women have an advantage often enjoyed by men," the company said in a statement. "But don't worry, if men play their cards right, they can make more money too."
If the intention was to attract public attention — it worked. In fact, it doesn’t seem like anyone’s too happy with Ms. Monopoly at the moment.

The game also introduces a bit of a thematic twist, as well. Forget about buying properties and playing real estate baron, Ms. Monopoly is more invested in celebrating female innovators and entrepreneurs. Players seek to place their stock behind female-driven inventions such as chocolate chip cookies, shapewear and solar heating rather than the stock little green houses and fire-red hotels.
At the end of the day, whether the Ms. Monopoly will be successful for Hasbro seems to be something of a gamble. Hitting Walmart shelves in a matter of weeks for just $19.99, the game is sure to sell at least a few copies. The jury's still out whether men or women are really happy about it.
