Politicians Urge UFC to Ban Octagon Girls from the Ring

A lot of people love the punching, kicking and blood pumping of a good UFC bout. But as it turns out, there are some people who don’t care much for the ring’s “Octagon Girls.”

UFC ring girls such as Arianny Celeste (also famous for her extremely sultry and sensual Playboy spread), Brittney Palmer, and others have made a claim to cultural fame by providing energetic and perhaps erotic flavor to these combat sports events.

Not everyone is happy about this, however, particularly some Australian politicians. According to the Herald Sun, Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp couldn't have been clearer in voicing her dislike of Arianny and Brittney's work.

“It's 2019, do we really still need scantily clad women to wander around the middle of a fighting ring between rounds?”

Going on to make comparisons between UFC ring girls and the now-retired grid girls of F1 racing or the women hired as walk-on girls during a game of professional darts, Capp further commented on the longstanding practice of having attractive women hold round cards during fight nights.

“Grid girls are no longer part of Formula One. Walk-on girls are no longer part of professional darts. Surely it's time to move on,” she said.

It seems that certain Aussies are pretty fired up about this issue in advance of UFC 243, which is slated to take place in Melbourne on October 5. Premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews joined Capp in calling for an end to the inclusion of ring girls into the mix. As you might guess, there have been a mix of responses from the fans.

Whatever your thoughts about the pending fate of these scantily clad walking women, you may want to prepare yourself for them being a novelty of the past.
