Arnold Schwarzenegger Plans to Send Teen Climate Activist Greta Thunberg a Tesla

A 16-year-old Swedish girl is making headlines more often than Arnold Schwarzenegger these days, if one can believe that. However, he doesn't seem to mind too much, if his latest actions are any indication.

According to Car and Driver, Schwarzenegger has offered to provide teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg a Tesla while she tours North America. As you might have heard, Thunberg is the talk of the town, primarily for her passionate and emotional speech made at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York City last week. Her words came across as earnest, and were well-received by many, but also served as a point of division for her critics.

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I'm one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing,” Thunberg said. “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”

Having delivered a speech that has made the world sit up and take notice (and having recently met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to scold him over his inaction on the climate file), it now appears that Greta Thunberg has also attracted the attention of celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

After confessing that he had been “starstruck” by his first meeting with Thunberg in May of this year — spending a little time with the teen in Vienna before kicking off his own climate action initiative, R20 — the action hero more recently supported his newfound friend by arranging a Tesla Model 3 to transport her around North America. A spokesperson for Schwarzenegger elaborated on the particulars in a public statement, making it clear that the actor had earlier extended an offer to the teenaged climate activist to “call if she needed anything.”

“Getting his electric Hummer across the country would be quite a challenge so it isn't his personal car ... It's a Tesla Model 3.”

Greta Thunberg and Arnold Schwarzenegger have more in common than one might think at first glance, as well. Aside from their shared love of environmental causes and concerns, both personalities have also seemingly placed themselves at odds with President Trump and his administration.

Now, this unlikely tag-team is working together to bring increased awareness to the potential plight of the planet, and it looks like the teen will be cruising around in style — at least for a little while. The Tesla Model 3 is a fully electric vehicle, although the source of the power stored in its batteries may not be as clean as advertised.

That being said, expect to see a whole lot more of Greta Thunberg as the years roll on. Now something of a media darling and a lightning rod for both praise and criticism the young woman certainly creates a story in her wake, wherever (and however) in the world she travels.
