Rob Gronkowski Returns to Football as an NFL Analyst for Fox Sports

Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski has been stirring up a lot of speculation as to a potential return having taken to the field at Gillette Stadium for a few practice drills which went viral on Instagram. Now, seemingly dispelling all rumors that he will actually be hitting the gridiron in the famous red, white, and blue of his New England Patriots, Gronk has announced that he'll instead be manning the analysis booth for Fox Sports.

“I’m extremely excited to be joining FOX Sports,” Gronk said in a press release. “For the past 25 years, they’ve offered viewers top-notch NFL programming from the field to the booth to the studio.”

The former Patriots tight end and three-time Super Bowl champion will take a seat alongside fellow football greats Terry Bradshaw, Michael Strahan and Tony Gonzalez. Football analyst Peter Schrager will also work with the team to offer up his own expert take on the game.

While fans may be a little disappointed that one of the star players in contemporary football won’t actually be returning to the field, at least one of Gronkowski's friends has his back — former teammate Tom Brady. The world-famous quarterback offered up some brief words of support for Gronk when asked about the latter's new deal as an on-air personality.

“He’ll be good,” Brady told ESPN. “He’s been pretty good at everything he’s done,” Brady remarked while speaking to interviewers. “It’s great to see a lot of our guys get a lot of great opportunities like that.”

Fox exec Brad Zager was equally open in his praise for the soon-to-be sports broadcaster, laying down a trail of compliments for Gronk in a public statement.

“He is one of the most popular players to ever play the game and also one of the best tight ends in NFL history,” said Zager. “His passion for the game and larger-than-life personality make him a perfect fit.”

While Gronkowski prepares to go over the records set by this crop of future NFL superstars in his own fashion, he’s known for his own record on the field during his own lengthy career. Racking up a record 10 touchdown receptions (as a tight end) in five seasons, Gronk played in 16 playoff games and garnered 81 receptions for 1,163 yards while there — more than any other tight end in the game's history. The future Hall of Famer has also made headlines for his high-profile partnership with CBD Medic — a cannabis-based pain relief system — and also for coming clean about his laundry list of nagging injuries and concussions.

Gronk will debut in the commentary booth on October 10, during the pregame show for the Patriots vs. Giants game.
