Stella Artois Midnight Lager Combines Chocolate and Espresso in a Holiday Beer

The latest in a long line of recent coffee and beer mashups, Stella Artois is entering the realm of seasonal brews for the very first time with their limited-edition Midnight Lager.

As you might have guessed, Midnight Lager is a decidedly dark brew that combines the comforting notes of Belgian dark chocolate and freshly-brewed espresso. The 5.4 percent ABV beer's name is a nod to the legendary Headless Horseman's midnight ride through Sleepy Hollow, so it only makes sense that it would make its debut in the historic New York village on October 31. A number of local bars will be serving the brew while supplies last, including free pours at certain locations.

"Stella Artois was originally brewed as a holiday gift for the town of Leuven in Belgium, so we know a thing or two about the holiday season and wanted to give a new gift to our consumers,” notes Lara Krug, VP of Stella Artois.

Stella’s new brew boasts a distinctive black and gold label that's bold, moody and inspired by the midnight sky itself. But don't let the somewhat haunting look fool you. Despite the fact that Midnight Lager appears to be the perfect sip to launch on Halloween, the Belgian brewmaster insists that it will make a festive companion throughout the holidays this fall and winter.

"The rich taste of Stella Artois Midnight Lager along with the deep, warm notes perfectly complements the cold crisp weather and will be the brew worth toasting with this holiday season," said Krug.

If you can’t make it all the way to Sleepy Hollow — arguably America’s most haunted town — to treat yourself to the very first taste of Midnight Lager on All Hallow's Eve, you can get into the holiday spirit when it hits store shelves nationwide on November 4. We hear dark beer goes exceptionally well with leftover Halloween candy, anyway.
