Yuengling Beer and Hershey Offer New Chocolate Beer

You've probably seen the memes surrounding various booze crazes, including the infamous White Claw shortage (and other hard seltzer trends) and about a dozen different coffee-beer concoctions. Well, strap yourselves in for this season's new hotness — chocolate beer from Yuengling and Hershey.

Coinciding with the 125th anniversary of their company, Hershey is now teaming up with beer legends Yuengling to bring cheer (and sugar) to their loyal customers. The year 2019 also serves as a milestone year for Yuengling, with the company having also opened up in Pennsylvania, but 190 years ago.

Yuengling Hershey's Chocolate Porter is planned to be a balanced blend of the traditional full-bodied taste of the brewer's darker ale with the rich, creamy flavor of classic Hershey's chocolate. Using their almost 200-year-old Dark Brewed Porter recipe as a base for this new brew, this porter promises a strong chocolate presence (of course) partnered with “caramel and dark roasted malts for a smooth, rich and delightfully chocolaty finish.”

Tasting notes suggest that this particular beer — coming in fairly light for a porter at a still-respectable 4.7 percent ABV — is meant to go with a side of delicious food, primarily barbecue or smoked meats, cheese platters, or even a simple dessert. Jen Yuengling, vice president of operations, explained to USA Today that, “We saw a unique opportunity to partner with Hershey’s, a brand known worldwide for its iconic, delicious tasting chocolate, to deliver fans our first-ever beer collaboration.”

While the news may have initially been teased on Facebook back in September, with Yuengling posting “BIG news on tap for tomorrow. Can you guess what our new brew is?” Yuengling Hershey's Chocolate Porter will officially kick off on October 3. The launch will take place at the Hotel Hershey during an exclusive media event. However, the chocolate-infused beer is expected to make a splash when it hits wider release shortly thereafter, being slated for a limited release in mid-October.

If you regularly see Yuengling in the beer cooler at your local liquor store, there is a pretty good chance you might be able to pick up this limited-edition porter as well. Yuengling has stated that this seasonal blend will be available in select markets common to Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and of course, Pennsylvania.
