The Latest UFC 245 Fight Card, Rumors and MMA Updates for Usman vs. Covington

UFC 245 is shaping up to be a can't-miss blockbuster event with not one or two, but three championships to be crowned, including the much-anticipated showdown between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. The two welterweights will face off this Saturday, December 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and viewers can watch it all go down via ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV).

Looking ahead to the Ultimate Fighting Championship's main event, it's hard to imagine that Usman very recently considered retiring from mixed martial arts altogether. Also known as "The Nigerian Nightmare," he is the reigning UFC welterweight champion of the world, but he nearly walked away from it all because no one wanted to fight him.

"I honestly thought about quitting fighting," Usman revealed in an interview with Canada’s TSN. "Guys really didn’t want to take the gamble by fighting me... You got a big shark that will eat up all of you guys, that is circling the waters around you guys. But nobody wanted to let me in the party."

Usman eventually did get his invite to the party and is currently on a 14-fight win streak. But one of the men who repeatedly turned him down for a bout last year was none other than Covington, his upcoming opponent this weekend is Las Vegas.

In Saturday's co-main event, featherweight champ Max Holloway will come to blows with top contender Alexander Volkanovski. Both have been on quite a run for the past six years, with neither one coming up with a loss until Holloway's slip-up against Dustin Poirer this past April.
