I’ve had enough.
My ends are fried, my roots are always showing and the constant uphill battle to be blonde is starting to come to an end for me. I don’t know if it’s just since having a baby and being too busy to care or perhaps I’m just really yearning to have long, healthy hair but I am officially putting an end to my split ends.
I have a confession to make.
Back in October I put in a few extensions {eek!}. My goal was to have a few around my face where my hair is a bit thinner and I really loved them. I did less than one bundle and then when I went in to have them redone we did a full bundle. Then, a few weeks ago I had them done a third time and before I knew it, I was walking away with three bundles of extensions on my head. It was a domino effect.
I felt sick to my stomach.
Without getting into more detail, that night I stayed up until all hours of the night doing research about how to get my hair back under control. I also ordered a ton of new products I found on the Nordstrom Beauty section to help me on my new journey to healthy hair.
The Goal: To not get blonde highlights again and allow my natural color to grow and work toward healthier hair.
Step One: Invest In a New Hair Dryer
My hair stylist had a near panic attack when she saw that I was using a hair dryer without a nozzle. I had never really shown anyone my hair dryer but she says that I’ve been practically burning my hair straight off my head and that you should always use a dryer with a nozzle attached to protect your hair from burning. My hair dryer was so old that I don’t even know where the nozzle is, so I ordered a new one from Nordstrom by ghd that I’m pretty amped about.
Step Two: Start Masking Again
Right after I had June, I was terrified that my hair would fall out and I took such extreme measures of masking and taking vitamins but somehow that’s fallen to the wayside as of late. I’m going to start masking every single time I work out and I purchased this Living Proof protector mask that’s been a long time favorite of mine. It leaves my hair feeling super soft and silky.
Step Three: Care About Hair Care
I honestly have been using whatever shampoo that brands send my direction. Not anymore! I did a decent amount of research and while I use Olaplex from time to time, I’ve never tried their shampoo and conditioner. So I purchased that as well and I can’t wait to see if it makes a strong difference. I also read that conditioner is vital to use because it protects your hair from the heat of a blowdryer.
Step Four: Protect from Heat
Listen, I know that heat damages hair but sometimes the smallest steps can make such a big difference, things like reducing drying time and protecting hair from the sun. There are a few more products I’ve linked to below that I invested in to help protect my locks from additional heat damage.
Do any of you have helpful tips on how I can work towards healthier hair? Please leave a comment below.
Special thank you to Nordstrom for partnering on this post.
