Your Outlook on Love for 2020, Based On Your Zodiac Sign

If you've been on social media at all in the last few years, you've probably seen an astrology meme or two. Having zodiac stats thrown in your face can be overwhelming, especially if you don't really know the in's and out's of the astrological terminology.

That said, even if you may not be super interested in what planet is transiting in what house on any given day, when it comes to matters of the heart, the stars can be really helpful.

In case you were wondering deep down what the universe has in store for your love life this year, AskMen spoke to astrologist extraordinaire Clarisse Monahan of Venus In Retrograde Astrology. She helped to break down how the signs operate in their romantic lives, also hitting upon what could possibly go down in your love life later this year.

Although it gets labeled as quick to jump in and out of relationships, they are actually one of the most loyal signs.The ideal soulmate would enter an Aries’ life quietly without making too many demands of them.

"2020 can be a bit tricky for Aries as your ruling planet Mars is going to be retrograde for a good part of the second half of the year,” says Monahan. “When Mars is retrograde we don't have as much energy or gusto, however it is a great time to rework things. If you have parted ways with a loved one and want to reconnect, this would be an excellent time."

Taureans like to be sure about someone before they enter into the realm of romance. This sign is most likely to meet people through channels that are comfortable to them, such as introductions through family or friends.

Because of this, "2020 looks set to be a bit of a maverick year for you,” notes Monahan. “You may well be attracted to people who are not your usual type, so keep an open mind."

Step out of that carefully maintained comfort zone, Taurus, because your love is likely in the place you'd least expect.

Geminis are the social butterflies of the zodiac. According to Monahan, they are most likely to meet their soulmate on a random night out. They know they've made a romantic connection when simple small talk becomes a deep exploration of numerous ideas.

"In 2020, Venus will spend four months in your sign this year (lucky you)," says Monahan. If you’re clueless as to what that means, it’s basically highlighting the planet Venus as ruler of love and pleasure. That means having this planet in your sign gives you an added boost in the love department.

Instead of retreating in your mind, as Geminis are prone to do, Monahan recommends following what your heart wants.

When it comes to love, Cancers believe in soulmates. Once they have met that special person, they hold on tight, investing a lot into the connection. This sign rules the home, so their soulmates tend to become like family with deep, lasting emotional bonds.

"Cancers, you may have felt that the last year was a bit tough, especially in relation to love, states Monahan. “However, you are going to be rewarded this year. Jupiter and Pluto will be aligning now in your partnership house. Together these two planets can bring a really positive change. Take this as a sign that it is an excellent time to meet someone special.”

Leos require a rapt audience in the theatre of love, which explains why their soulmate tends to be someone who gives them a lot of attention and care.

"This year, Jupiter is in your romance sector for most of the year, which will be loads of fun,” says Monahan. “However, this is the sector for more casual and adventurous romantic connections as opposed to committed, serious love.”

She adds that near the end of 2020, though, a relationship that was thought to be more of a casual affair may turn into something long term.

This Earth sign likes to be swept off their feet at the start. After an initial whirlwind of excitement, nothing makes Virgos happier than settling into a nice routine.

"Love for you this year looks good," says Monahan. "You will have a lot of energy for relationships during the summer."

This generally means that when it gets warmer out, you might find yourself pursuing someone quite serious or find someone pursuing you.

Libras do not like to be by themselves, always on the lookout for a partner. Monahan points out that Libras can have fairy tale aspirations about soulmates, too, which can sometimes lead to hard to meet expectations.

"Uranus, the planet of unpredictability, is in your intimacy sector this year,” notes Monahan. “This will bring exciting change to your sex life and your attitude toward intimacy in general. You will likely be opening yourself up to new experiences and pleasures.”

Plus, Uranus is the planet of doing things the unconventional way, so the weirder, the better.

Scorpios pursue soulmate connections with intensity and drive. This sign needs there to be a deeply emotional and magnetic connection for it to go to that soulmate level.

"This year, we have an extended period of Mars going retrograde," says Monahan. "During this time, you may feel like you don't have as much energy to dedicate to emotional pursuits as you usually do. However, you will be getting many intuitive insights into who you are as a person and what emotional needs you need to nourish."

Even though this may be a year of singlehood and reflecting on what you want in a relationship, there's immense value in spending that time with yourself.

When it comes to Sagittarians, after many ups and downs in relationships, Monahan believes they see that their ideal partner has been there the whole time — they just didn't see it before.

"In 2020, you will be getting plenty of attention and more than likely plenty of options in terms of partnerships,” says Monahan. “This period you could be about turning to your past rather than looking ahead to your future.”

And if you let someone go for a reason, try to remember that before you jump back in.

Capricorns like to build and plan for the future, and their love life is no exception. A good place for Capricorns to find their soulmate is either the workplace or somewhere they practice a hobby that they care about.

"The first half of the year for you will be focused more on honoring your needs in relationships,” states Monahan. “Your lesson this year involves recognizing your deep intimate needs and then voicing them. The challenge is to work on allowing yourself to be vulnerable with others and to get over any fears of intimacy you may have."

Though their idealistic nature outwardly veers more towards social causes and humanitarian issues, they all have a secret hidden nature that longs for deep connections. Monahan details that Aquarians can't stand the superficial, meaning they don't tend to give up on soulmate connections easily.

"Having Uranus as their ruling planet means these folks can meet their soulmates in the most unlikely of situations,” says Monahan. “2020 is a year when this sign wants to get serious. They will be focused more on stability and building structure in their relationships.

Don’t be afraid to admit what you want, and then go seek it.

This sign is sentimental, romantic and dreamy, with Pisces spending their lives looking for their other half. Ruled by Neptune, Pisces tend to be very compassionate people who wear their hearts on their sleeves.

"2020 for Pisces is a mixed bag. Mars, the planet of sex and war, is in your sign from May 12 to June 27, and this will give you much-needed confidence and courage to get out in the dating world if you're single,” notes Monahan. “Mars is meeting Neptune (which is your ruling planet) on June 13, so old issues with boundaries may come up.”

In the end, just remember to pay attention to your intuition, Pisces. If something doesn't feel right, it usually means it isn't!
