Our Living Room

This is hands down one of my favorite rooms in the house.

When we first moved in, I was pretty intimidated by this space. Specifically, the historic Batchelder fireplace which we cannot make any alterations to due to the historical preservation act that our home is protected under. We love it. It was just a bit difficult to bring the design up to modern day.

Luckily, Martha Mulholland came to our rescue and waved her amazingly talented wand over the space. She brought in gorgeous velvet drapes in a light pink color and a beautiful sofa in a natural white color that I would have steered clear of {which is surprisingly easy to clean}. With every single detail carefully planned out, down to the piano bench fabric, Martha truly made this room come to life. I absolutely loved working with Martha because she pushed my boundaries in certain areas of the space and really opened me up to trying out new things.

Most recently, this has been the room in our house that’s reserved for our “date nights” during quarantine. We absolutely love detaching from social media and watching television for a little disconnection – connection. We love spending time by the fireplace with a glass of wine, music playing with long conversations.

I’ve linked to a few similar items below and provided credits for everything in our space at the very bottom of this post.

A Mix Of Old & New

I think one of the reasons this room works is because we brought in more modern furniture and decor that blends well with our vintage pieces. For example, the crisp white sofa {which is actually very easy to clean} offers a very fresh, bright and more contemporary element when paired with our two vintage chairs.

Let There Be Light

The number one thing I knew I absolutely wanted in the space was a pair of Double Arm sconce by Jean Royere for Edition Modern above the fireplace. I’d been drooling over these sconces for many years and I absolutely love them. I think they really compliment and update the old fireplace.

Accessories Are Everything

The icing on the cake to any room are definitely the accessories. I am constantly moving accessories around and restyling our house depending on the season and my mood.
