We all gravitate towards the best selling men's colognes.

But, how do you choose from the best selling men's colognes?

Today, I am making it easy for you.

I am ranking the top 25 best selling men's colognes from WORST to BEST.

I think you'll be surprised at my list.

My Ranking Criteria

You’re probably wondering – how the hell did you make this list?

Well, I ranked them from a perspective of someone getting into colognes for the first time. The man who wants quality over quantity. On top of that, they all had to be best selling men's colognes to be on this list. No niche fragrances here!

Yes, I know I own hundreds of fragrances but you don’t have to. This ranking is based on quality of the fragrances in my opinion.

I used the following three criteria in my ranking for quality:

1. Price
2. Versatility
3. Other People’s Opinions

For the price, it had to be something that could be justified for what you are getting. The man just getting into fragrances hasn’t spent a lot on them. No one wants to waste money even if you have it!

Versatility matters because at first you want a fragrance that can do it all for you. I know the fragrance adicionados out there say this doesn’t matter but it does to the guy starting out.

Finally, other people’s thoughts was my last criteria. Granted, you want to wear something that you like and feel confident in but, you also want something that isn’t going to be so polarizing that others will either love it or hate it. You want compliments – complements are good.

 

Honorable Mentions

Creed Aventus: Normally, number on most people’s list but it didn’t crack my top 25. Why? Price. It’s very versatile and people love it at the end of the day, it’s too expensive to justify someone just starting off.

Bleu de Chanel EDT: Same as Aventus, it’s versatile, will get you compliments but the price is too high.

Terre d’Hermes Parfum by Hermes: Another victim of high price, there are so many better options that are well under the price. I love this fragrance and it’s versatile but the price just keeps it out of the top 25.

Dior Sauvage EDT: Great fragrance but the price is not right and too much to justify.

Thierry Mugler A*Man EDT: This is another favorite of mine; however, it didn’t make the top 25 because it lacks versatility. It’s too polarizing for this list.

Drakkar Noir: Incredibly inexpensive, this cologne is just too popular.

CK’s Obsession for Men & Eternity for Men: Too recognizable and remind people of the 1990’s instead of today.

 

25. La Nuit de L’Homme by Yves Saint Laurent

A combination of sophistication and masculine freshness, Yves Saint Laurent’s La Nuit de L’Homme starts with sweet, spicy cardamon and transitions to a hear of citrus-fresh bergamot, cedar wood, and lavender.

 

24. Burberry for Men EDT

This a fresh, energetic fragrance was created in 1995 and is still one of Burberry’s best sellers. The top notes include bergamot, mint, sandalwood and moss.

 

23. Armani Code by Giorgio Armani

Armani Code has been on top seller list since it was first released in 2004 and for good reason. Winner of the 2006 FiFi Award for Fragrance of the Year, it has top notes of bergamot and lemon which transition to a smooth base note of leather.

 

22. Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger

This luxurious eau de toilette was created in 1994 for the man who loves to explore his mind… at least that’s what Tommy Hilfiger says. This intriguing scent has notes of grapefruit, rain, bergamot and lavender which gives it a more fruity composition.

 

21. CK One by Calvin Klein

CK One is designed as a unisex fragrance but don’t let that scare you. This circus-y cologne is a perfect summer cologne. With top notes of pineapple, orange that make way for base notes of nutmeg, sandalwood and amber, CK One is a head turner that if worth exploring.

 

20. Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier

This intense, masculine fragrance combine sweet and fruity with spicy tones that include: bergamot, pear, mint, lavender, cinnamon, sage, caraway, vanilla, cedar, amber and patchouli. This fragrance evolves while you wear it.

 

19. Jimmy Choo Man

Elegant and edgy, Jimmy Choo man was created by the house of Jimmy Choo in 2014. The scent opens with a blend of lavender and mandarin notes. The added suede notes on the base give this fragrance a timeless luxury feeling.

 

18. 1 Million by Paco Rabanne

Since being launch in 2008, 1 Million it is estimated that 1.23 million people have used this fragrance. With an eye-catching bottle and a spicy mix of orange, grapefruit and cinnamon, this fragrance will be remembered.

 

17. Versace Pour Homme Dylan Blue

Calabrian bergamot, grapefruit, fig leaf, violet leaf, papyrus are just some of the notes in Versace’s Pour Homme Dylan Blue. Dylan Blue allows you to experience a whiff of cool Mediterranean breeze making this an amazing warm weather fragrance.

 

16. The One EDT by Dolce & Gabbana

Introduced in 2008, The One EDT is made by the design house Dolce & Gabbana with opening notes of grapefruit, coriander and basil with lower hints of ginger and orange. This is a versatile scent that make heads turn and leaves you standing out from a crowd.

 

15. Prada L’Homme EDT

L’Homme is marketed to the man who loves an adventure. Top notes of cardamon, black pepper, carrot seeds and neroli, this fragrance is fresh and clean with decent projection and longevity.

 

14. Polo Red by Ralph Lauren

One of the more unique colognes on my list, Polo Red was created in 2003 with a variety of red notes that creates an uplifting scent. The fragrance notes include grapefruit, lemon, cranberry, saffron and sage.

 

13. Light Blue Pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana

Light Blue is an amazing choice for a self-assured man who wants a vibrant scent. It boasts a robust set of notes including mandarin, grapefruit, bergamot, juniper, rosemary. Best used for casual wear, this is a great fragrance to wear on a date.

 

12. Acqua Di Gio Pour Homme by Giorgio Armani

You knew this was going to be on the list. One of the most masculine scents and recognizable scents on this list, Acqua Di Gio is a crowdpleaser that is light and watery with a touch of citrus and a woody finish.

 

11. Legend EDT by Montblanc

Montblanc’s Legend EDT is another great scent that could easily be your go-to. This scent is a close match to Abercrombie and Fitch’s Fierce but isn’t as played out as Fierce is. The notes include lavender, bergamot, lemon verbena, pineapple and coumarin.

 

10. Burberry Touch for Men

Launched in 2000, this men’s cologne is a fresh and light scent featuring notes of artemisia, violet leaf, mandarin orange, nutmeg and white pepper. This is a great daytime use fragrance that will turn heads and be very inviting to others.

 

9. Coach for Men EDT

From the design house of Coach, this fragrance features nots of green nashi, pear, bergamot, kumquat, cardamon and vetiver. This fragrance is similar to Gucci’s Guilty for men but at half the price.

 

8. Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme

Masculine but not overpowering Issey Miyake has created this woody fragrance which blends the sweetness of tangerine with bergamot. Not only is the price unbeatable, the name is a great conversation starter – you just try to say it correctly…

 

7. Nautica Voyage

Voyage by Nautica is a sleeper pick for most people because the price is so low. This fragrance is well under $20 and will get you tons of compliments. The notes include green leaves, apple, mimosa, lotus and amber. With this price-point, you can’t go wrong and that is why it is number 7.

 

6. Azzaro Chrome EDT

This has been around for 25 years and it is still a powerhouse fragrance. This aromatic circus cologne blends rosemary, pineapple, neroli, bergamot and lemon which helps this last forever.

 

5. Versace Eros

A usual suspect on many lists, Versace Eros ranks so high because of the price, versatility and just how much of the cologne you get. This has great projection (so you don’t need to apply a lot) and features mint, green apple, lemon, tonic bean and geranium in its notes.

 

4. Cool Water by Davidoff

This iconic oceanic scent is hard to beat at the price it is. Similar to Green Irish Tweed by Creed, this has been a best seller for decades for its ability to project and smell amazing. This summer fragrance features rosemary, mint, sandalwood, lavender, cedar notes.

 

3. Azzaro Wanted EDT

This is a perfect compliment getting fragrance and is best for casual settings and not for work. The bottle is well I mean come on – it’s freaking awesome looking. This has notes of lemon, ginger lavender, mint and cardamom.

 

2. Lacoste L.12.12 Blanc Pour Lui EDT

A very light fragrance, this is a great cologne to get started with that will also get you compliments.. This is a timeless scent that is very affordable and easy to experiment in any situation. The fragrance notes are grapefruit, cardamom, rosemary, cedar leaf and tuberose.

 

1. Versace Man Eau Fraiche

When it comes to versatility, price and the amount of compliments you’ll get, Versace’s Men Eau Fraiche is unbeatable. This blends notes of bergamot, cardamom, lemon, carambola and Brazilian rosewood into a fresh, aquatic scent ideal for any situation. Created by the master perfumer Olivier Cresp in 2006, you can’t go wrong with this scent.
