My First Twist Out of 2023 + How I Achieve Bigger HairPeppermint Growth Oil

An Easy, DIY Peppermint Growth Oil Recipe

The Revolutionary Research-Backed Solution for Hair Loss

I just sat for my morning meditation, downed 180z of freshly pressed orange juice, did 10 pushups (the newest addition to my mornings, took a week to get up to 10 lol!), and mixed and applied my ridiculously effective Peppermint Growth Oil. This, I had to share. But first, let’s catch you up on the why.

A recent study conducted in 2022 has revealed that peppermint oil is a research-backed treatment for hair loss, surpassing even the effectiveness of the widely known minoxidil (aka Rogaine). Let’s first dive into the deets, and then I’ll share how to create your own Peppermint Growth Oil using the power of Black Jamaican Castor Oil (BJCO)!

The Study

In the realm of hair loss treatments, the discovery of peppermint oil’s remarkable benefits is a game-changer. The 2022 study, published in the Journal of Hair and Scalp Research, conducted a comprehensive analysis comparing the efficacy of peppermint oil and minoxidil in treating hair loss. Peppermint oil not only exhibited superior hair growth-promoting properties but also displayed a significantly higher success rate than minoxidil.

The Magic of Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil works its wonders by stimulating blood flow to the hair follicles, enhancing nutrient delivery and oxygen supply to the scalp. It also boasts powerful antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that combat scalp issues, promoting a healthy environment for hair growth. Additionally, peppermint oil has been found to increase the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle while decreasing the telogen (resting) phase, leading to fuller and thicker hair.

Creating Your Own Peppermint Growth Oil with Black Jamaican Castor Oil (my fave)

Step 1: Gather the goods

  • ½ cup of Black Jamaican Castor Oil
  • 15 drops of pure peppermint essential oil
  • A clean, empty glass bottle with a dropper (or a color applicator bottle)

Step 2:  Start by pouring the Black Jamaican Castor Oil into the glass bottle. Next, add the 15 drops of pure peppermint essential oil to the bottle. Secure the cap tightly and give it a gentle shake to ensure the oils are well blended.

Step 3: Before applying the peppermint growth oil, ensure your scalp is clean and free from any product buildup. Part your hair into sections and apply a few drops of the oil directly onto your scalp. Using your fingertips, massage the oil into your scalp using circular motions. This will help stimulate blood circulation and maximize absorption. I personally use a color application bottle to apply, and I don’t part these curls lol, I just squeeze the tip of the bottle into my edges and any exposed scalp and then between my hairs lol and massage, massage, massage. I do this nightly before bed.

Step 4: Leave the peppermint growth oil on your scalp for at least 1-2 hours or overnight for deeper penetration. You can cover your hair with a shower cap or towel to avoid any potential oil transfer. The longer you leave it on, the better the results.

Step 5:  After your treatment (or on your next wash day, that’s what I do), gently cleanse your hair and scalp using a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Follow up with your regular hair care routine. For optimal results, repeat this process at least 2-3 times per week.  It’s easies to stay the course if you’re rocking a protective style. My hair is presently in two flat twists that I wear under a beanie or scarf before heading out. So I’m basically an oil slick 24/7!Should You Be Steaming Your Hair? Helpful Answers to 12 FAQs About Hair Steaming

The emergence of peppermint oil as a research-backed treatment for hair loss has opened up a world of possibilities for those seeking natural, easily accessible, and pocket-friendly remedies. With its ability to outperform minoxidil and its numerous benefits for scalp health, peppermint oil has become a must-have in every hair care arsenal. By incorporating Black Jamaican Castor Oil into the mix, you can create a potent peppermint growth oil that nourishes and revitalizes your hair. (FYI- there’s countless anecdotal accounts of the hair growing and length retaining wonder working powers of BJCO even without the peppermint oil!)

Remember, consistency is key when using natural remedies. Allow time for the peppermint growth oil to work its magic, as hair growth is a gradual process. With regular application and a healthy hair care routine, you’ll see results in about 4 weeks, maybe sooner.

In addition to using the homemade peppermint growth oil, it’s crucial to maintain a holistic approach to hair care. Ensure you’re following a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein, as nutrition plays a vital role in hair health. I follow a low fat, mostly raw vegan, 80, 10, 10 rule). Check out this book, and this book.  Hydrate your body by drinking plenty of water (and fresh juices… this changed my life and allowed me to stay vegan), and practice stress management techniques, as stress can contribute to hair loss.

Always remember to patch test the peppermint growth oil before applying it to your scalp to ensure you don’t have any adverse reactions. If you experience any irritation or discomfort, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.
