Never Have I Ever: Had Sex at Work

Did you ever play “Never Have I Ever” in college? Here are the rules: Everyone puts up ten fingers, and you go around in a circle and one by one share something that you’ve never done (and as human nature goes, the experiences shared are usually sexual). If you’ve done it, you have to put one finger down, and of course, drink. The first person to put all 10 fingers down loses or wins, depending on how you look at it.

One day we all have to become grown-ups, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop playing Never Have I Ever, or better yet — checking things off your bucket list. AskMen is still playing, and the rules are simple: In each edition of this column, we speak to someone about something they’ve always wanted to try in bed. They tell us about the fantasy, and why it turns them on. Then, they actually do it, and we get the lowdown on how the experience matched the fantasy.

Are you at work right now? If you’re reading this while seated at your office desk, hiding the screen from anyone passing by, odds are there’s a place within view where you’ve imagined getting it on.

Perhaps you have a crush on a colleague, or perhaps you’re in a full blown relationship with someone you work with, but you’ve never acted upon anything at your job to maintain that level of professionalism. Well, it might have taken an office party with liquor involved, but 25-year-old Rachel, who works at an ad agency, recently figured out new uses for handicap bathrooms with the help of her college friend, James.

Described by Rachel as the “perfect friends with benefits,” the two snuck out of an office party recently to bang in secrecy. Now, she can never look at that stall the same again.

We asked Rachel how the sex was, how it affected the office vibe going forward and how office sex compares to a regular ‘ol office romance.

AskMen: So where do you work, exactly?

Rachel: I work in an ad agency. I’ve been here since I graduated college.

And who is it that you had sex with in the office?

I had sex with James. We went to college together. We had sex in college, too. He’s a good guy... no he’s not, actually, but he’s not a bad person. Really funny, super gregarious and just hot as fu*k — and he knows it. He’s basically a very attractive, charming man who is very good at his job and definitely intelligent, but he’s just sort of a dummy, you know? He’s always saying ridiculously inappropriate things but somehow getting away with it, and accidentally breaking girl’s hearts. He’s like a giant golden retriever.

Did he break your heart?

No. Well, maybe a teeny bit in college, but not now, no. My friend group quickly figured out that James is good for sex, but bad for dating. By the time we both got to New York and ended up working together, I had already written him off as boyfriend material. But he is the perfect friend with benefits

How did the idea to have office sex come about?

Well, as anyone who works in advertising can confirm, there’s plenty of excuses to celebrate or have a happy hour, and there’s wine and beer at meetings. It’s not weird to take whiskey out if your team has a big win. And James and I always get a little flirty. One office meeting, we just went for whiskey rather than wine, and ended up slipping into the handicap bathroom. The flirting escalated, he suggested I come with him … I thought he was joking, but when I went with him I realized he absolutely was not.

How was it?

I mean, it was drunk sex in the handicap bathroom … it was gross, but more professional than in a bar bathroom? It was hot gross. He bent me over and fu*ked me over the sink. I pulled up my skirt; he pulled down his pants. Yeah, it was hot.

Did it change your work environment in any way?

There was an added element of an inside joke between me and James, for sure. We’d message about it, and I’m sure someone monitoring those emails knows. Thankfully, like I’ve said, he and I already have a pretty established sexual dynamic and boundaries, so nothing became weird. It made the office sexier. It’s now a sex place, in my head. Every time I walk past that bathroom, I think about it, and I secretly laugh when I see others using it.

What advice would you give for someone thinking about having sex at work?

I know they happen, but an office romance feels hard. I think it could have changed things if I had sex with someone for the first time there. But maybe it would be fine? I don’t know. I guess my only certain advice is to keep it at a quickie so you don’t get fired. Oh, and we’re on the same level but in different departments, so just be careful if you fu*k your boss.

Why do you say sex is easier than an office romance?

Well, it’s already distracting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s distracting in a really fun way — I’d much rather be getting wet over dirty texts with James than stressing over emails — but it is distracting. So far it’s not “make me bad at my job” distracting, but we’re just dirty talking. Adding the analyzation that comes with actually catching feelings for someone feels like a lot.

Would you do it again?

Oh, we’re planning on it.
