3 Must-Have Products for 4C Natural Hair

by Jane Okoji

Browsing online and offline shopping stalls, local shops, and malls for the right products to manage your unique kinks and curls can be such a chore. But not to worry, we’ve got your back!

In this article, we’ve listed a few powerful 4C hair products that have won our hearts, and we trust they’ll have the same effect on you. Cheers to finding the 4C hair care product of your dreams!

Shampoos and Co-Washes

When washing 4C hair, we advise that you shampoo-wash once or twice a month and do some co-washing (washing with a conditioner or formulated co-wash) in-between. The therapeutic art of shampooing helps you set up a clean and healthy environment on your scalp to foster healthy growth.

Granted, we can’t overlook how essential shampoos are for your hair health and growth. But, you shouldn’t wash your hair too often to avoid stripping your hair of its moisture and natural oils and consequently damaging your hair.

One shampoo I can’t get enough of is Our Knappy Rootz Spirulina + Lime Shampoo. Unlike other shampoos that can quickly dry out your hair, it deeply moisturizes and nourishes your strands after ONE wash.

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget to recommend a co-wash. Gently remove your scalp residue, sebum, or product buildup with this light, no-suds, and amazing co-wash that most 4C naturals swear by─As I Am Coconut Co-wash.

Conditioners

If you’re treating, transitioning, or just taking proper care of your hair, conditioners─regular, leave-in, and deep conditioners─are just the 4C hair products you need! Conditioners help to restore and nourish your strands with vital nutrients.  They also prevent further damage and breakage and help strengthen your hair follicles. But keep in mind, applying conditioners on your scalp will only clog it with product buildup and residue; so, try your best to restrict conditioners to your hair strands alone.

Since there are many options to choose from, we’ve picked just the right brands to help you have a marvelous conditioning experience! Read on to find out our heartthrobs.

Regular or Rinse-Out Conditioners
As the name implies, you rinse out the product from your hair after covering or steaming it for about 5-20 minutes. The Xpel Macadamia Oil Extract Conditioner is one rinse-out conditioner that has my heart!

Leave-in Conditioners
As the name implies, you don’t rinse these conditioners out. Instead, you leave them in and keep reapplying them every 2-3 days or however long it takes your hair to get dry.

I’ve permanently fallen in love with TGIN Miracle RepaiRx Protective Leave-In Conditioner. It’s really a miracle-in-a-bottle that moisturizes your hair for days on end. Moisture? Check. Definition? Check. Heavenly smell? Double-check. All you need is one try to give your hair the TLC it deserves.

Deep Conditioners

These conditioners are extensions of rinse-out conditioners. This means you should steam or cover your hair for longer (about 45 minutes to 1 hour). Hence the name, ‘deep’ conditioner.

Replenish your strands with Camille Rose Naturals Algae Renew Deep Conditioner. It’s packed with: antioxidants, 65 vitamins, pure blue-green algae, and minerals that will caress your strands with a touch of pure Heaven!

Oils

These are sealants that help you seal in moisture from your shampoo or co-wash and conditioners. After applying your shampoos and conditioners as you should, use your favorite sealing oil to keep in all that juicy goodness and put your hair in a protective style.

You can choose from castor (Jamaican Black), coconut, argan, olive, etc., oils or even mix them to make an oil cocktail, so you can reap the benefit of many oils at once! So, moisturize, seal, and protect your strands to keep your hair growing strong, healthy, and luscious!

Final Thoughts

Now you know the right products to set you up for a healthier 4C hair journey, have fun experimenting and trying them out! A friendly warning, there’s never such a thing as being too safe.

Always do a patch test and keenly observe how your hair reacts to any product before applying it to your entire head of hair.
With all this information you’ve garnered from this article, we ‘4C’ you grooming healthier, longer, and fuller strands soon. Keep chasing those 4C hair goals!
