Marcela Correa is a licensed medical pedicurist who has been filing, trimming, and buffing the tired feet of cement-stomping New Yorkers for almost a decade. From her perch at MediPedi NYC on Park Avenue, Correa has seen it all — from the spread of Fashion Week foot fungus to hedge-fund hangnails. She spills her biggest foot confessions, ahead.

I was always interested in feet. Hands gross me out. I hate hands, but I was always the person who fixed everybody’s feet — even my neighbor’s. I went to podiatry school until 1990, and then I moved from Uruguay to the States in 2001 to start my practice.

When I opened MediPedi in 2013, people couldn’t believe that I was opening something just for feet. They thought I was crazy. They’d say, ‘Why don’t you do facials?’ Everyone thinks of a spa when they think of nail care, but this has nothing to do with the spa. It’s like a teeth cleaning you get every few months. We clean the feet, file the calluses, and treat ingrown nails, fungus, and corns.

People started coming right away. They had a lot of pain and discomfort, and they were ashamed of their feet and didn’t want anyone to see them. With me, they had a private room and felt more comfortable getting help.

My clientele is 50/50 men and women. The men tend to come on Thursdays. It’s a lot of lawyers and men in finance or marketing. They’ll have to go to a meeting or a pool party that weekend, and they’ll stay in their suits because they don’t want to take off their shoes. I see men with a lot of power and a lot of money, and their feet are the only part of their body that they don’t like to show. They are ashamed of their feet, and they are so powerful that they don’t want to show their weakness to other people.

When these men come to me, they become a totally different person than when they walked in. They come in all macho and then they take off their shoes and they feel so exposed. We fix them up and they touch their feet and they’re in tears.

The women are a much different clientele — they come from all professions, including models. The models have a lot of calluses on the bottom of their feet because of uncomfortable shoes. There is a lot of athlete’s foot because they share shoes with different models and they don’t disinfect the shoes.

I see men with a lot of power and a lot of money, and their feet are the only part of their body that they don’t like to show.

It’s the same for hockey players — they have very bad feet because they wear boots with all that sweat and moisture. They get corns between their toes, which is common for people who play sports or run.

I’m not allowed to release names, but we do have celebrities that come. They like the private rooms; they can go in and out, and it’s like a medical office so no one knows what they are doing. The biggest issues are high heels on the girls, and on the guys it’s thick boots. They wear a lot of boots. I don’t know what is going on with the celebrity boots thing — they look like construction boots. I say, ‘Why you wearing those boots?’ ‘Fashion,’ they tell me.

The basketball players that come in are so tall that you don’t even need to ask them what they do for a living because it’s so obvious. My little hands have to go toe by toe on them because I can’t reach the whole thing. They have size 17, size 18 feet. I tell them, ‘You can park your shoes here.’

The most extreme case I ever saw was someone with two inches of nail and one inch of callus on the bottom of their feet. It was a combination of athlete’s foot and not caring for their feet in a while. The nail was so thick that it looked like a mushroom; it was graphic. We have machines that bring the nails down to make them soft and smooth again. If a case is really severe, I will FaceTime the podiatrist next door. I’ll ask him if I can touch it and clean it up, and then I’ll send that person to him for medical attention.

I always suggest people come in for a treatment every three to four months when the weather changes. When closed-shoes season comes, prepare your feet. When it’s summer and you’re wearing open shoes, prepare your feet. In the summer, it’s always cracked heels. Everyone has those lines and some get deeper because they’re dry and dehydrated. There’s also athlete’s foot and plantar warts from the pool. In the winter, the heels are usually OK because of socks, but the nails get thicker from tight boots and people get corns between the toes because of pointy shoes.

The biggest mistake I see is people cutting their nails too short. Even in the salon, the nail techs will try to cut the sides to make the nails more narrow which can lead to infection. Leave the size of your nail alone and remove any sharpness with a nail file.

Please wash your feet! When people shower they never brush their feet. They don’t even think about it. Did you really wash and brush them or did you just let the body wash rinse down your legs? If you don’t scrub them, they’re going to build up layers.

And please, please throw away your pumice stone. A lot of people get foot fungus and athlete’s foot from their pumice stone, which is full of holes that trap bacteria. If you sent a pumice stone to a lab to see what was inside, people would never use it again. The pumice stone is the worst thing that ever happened to feet. That, and high, high heels. People think they are sexy. To me, comfort is sexy.

One minute and six seconds into meeting Kristen Bell, she asks me if I have a system for peeing in the car on long road trips. “I pee in the car a lot, especially during COVID, because I’m not messing with public restrooms right now, OK?” she says to me in her signature chipper deadpan. “And my husband is like, ‘Honey, please don’t.’ So I recently bought a couple of devices off Amazon, and you cup them around you so you can aim better. They’re amazing.”

That kind of unfiltered candor has come to define Bell’s unique brand of celebrity. No topics are off limits for the star, who doesn’t shy away from sharing her challenges as a parent or what it’s like to live with anxiety and depression. “I live by this mantra, a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, that no one can make you feel inferior without your consent. I say it to myself every morning, and it works throughout the day. I don’t have to feel inferior unless I’m consenting. Not for my kids or my husband or my friends or the media or the industry or anything,” she says. When critics slammed her for admitting to occasionally using recreational marijuana in 2018, for example, Bell tells me that she didn’t even look at the news. “I literally don’t even care. It’s legal in California — so maybe take it up with California if you have a problem with it?”

Bell — who just unveiled her CBD-based brand, Happy Dance, this week — is brutally honest about her decision to dive into the beauty industry, too. “I’m gonna be real clear with you. I don’t need another paycheck,” she says. “I make enough money that I don’t need to do something I don’t believe in.” But Bell, who fell in love with the very chic, but very pricy Lord Jones line of CBD products, did believe in sharing its benefits with a bigger audience. “I grew up in Michigan and it’s not lost on me that I have the ability to go to an L.A. boutique and buy a great product and not look at the price,” she says. “But the majority of my friends don’t have that ability, and the majority of Americans don’t have that ability, and that doesn’t sit well with me.”

Bell, who was using the Lord Jones CBD Body Lotion and CBD Tinctures to help manage her anxiety and depression (in addition to taking an SSRI antidepressant and attending therapy), called the brand to pitch her idea. “I said, ‘Listen, you guys make the best products. Can we work together to figure out how to make a product that is aligned with all of our values and that has an accessibility factor? I don’t want anyone sweating when they look at the receipt.'”

After two and a half years, Bell’s vision came to life with three debut products that are as cheery as the star herself. “I thought, What would I look like if I was sitting in your medicine cabinet every morning being like, ‘HEYYYY,’ and this is it,” she says of the CBD Body Butter ($30), CBD Coconut Melt ($25), and CBD Bath Bomb ($15), which are all sourced from Premium Full Spectrum Hemp Extract. From the sunshine-y color palette to the cheeky branding, Bell hopes Happy Dance will appeal to overworked moms who deserve more than 15 minutes of self care a day. “Even prior to the pandemic, I took issue with the current definition of self care — that it was an event and those two hours for your monthly manicure are all that you got to yourself,” she says. “That just doesn’t work for me. I need something that is manageable and daily and sometimes hourly.”

Bell admits that she, like many others, was skeptical about CBD at first — but stuck with it at the recommendation of her friends. “I took the Lord Jones tincture every morning for two weeks and I realized on my way home from The Good Place that instead of going through my frantic to-do list — I gotta get more apples, and the kids need vegetables in their lunch, and one of the lunch pails need to be thrown away because they spilled milk and it smells bad — I was just listening to the radio,” she tells me. “When I got home, I wasn’t any less efficient. I felt no discernible difference because CBD doesn’t get you high in any way; if it did, I wouldn’t be using it around my children.” For the record, that’s also the reason Bell tells me she hasn’t ingested any form of marijuana in two years. “Because I’m always around my children, I don’t have the opportunity to. But I will say sincerely if given the choice, I would certainly rather use marijuana in any form than have a shot of something. I’m just not an alcohol person.”

Instead, Bell says that CBD helps her mentally “feel like the thermostat in the room is at the exact right temperature,” which has become even more crucial during COVID. “A lot of mental rituals have changed for me because the level of patience required during a pandemic when your family can’t leave the house is astronomical,” she says. “My mental self care has been reshaped because I realized during COVID that I have to give everyone, including myself, a lot more grace. You’re going to see everyone’s proclivities when you’re spending this much time together, so you gotta make time for the things that calm you down and make you feel good.”

For Bell, that also includes investing her time and energy into causes she believes in. “You know, I like sleeping well at night. I really like it. It’s so peaceful when you know you’re doing the right thing,” she deadpans. From the beginning, she knew Happy Dance would give at least 1% of the profits of every product sold to A New Way of Life Re-Entry Project, which was founded by Susan Burton to provide housing, case management, pro bono legal services, advocacy, and leadership development for women rebuilding their lives after prison. “It seemed like the perfect partnership given the fact that many of the women she helps are women incarcerated for low-level marijuana charges, sometimes more,” Bell says. “I’m going to make my mission to make Happy Dance survive and hopefully give her more than 1%.”

At the end of the day, Bell hopes these products — and a portion of the profits from them — find people where they need it most. “My main goal in life is to promote happiness and reduce suffering,” she says. “I felt a responsibility with my voice and platform to share good information with other people who might need it. Happy Dance is a mindset and a mantra that reminds you that you are important.”

Imagine if Carrie Bradshaw went to Paris and, instead of being snubbed by her boyfriend’s snobby friends, losing her beloved name-plate necklace, and getting slapped, she dumped the loser, went to the ballet solo, and spent weeks gallivanting the city in bucket hats and black tulle — leaving a trail of hot French men in her wake. That’s roughly the premise of Netflix’s Emily In Paris, a fashion-stuffed, 10-episode brain-candy binge from Sex and the City creator Darren Star.

The show follows Chicago-based marketing expert Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) as she travels to Paris to bring an “American perspective” to her firm’s global advertising team. She lands at Charles de Gaulle airport with beachy influencer waves, loud mixed patterns, and stars in her eyes — only to be very quickly schooled by her colleagues in the Parisian art of refinement. “Lily came from Chicago to Paris — a new life, new job, and also new relationship. The more [time] she spends in Paris, the more she takes involve in her image,” the show’s Paris-based hairstyling lead, Mike Desir, tells me.

After her first friend in Paris, Mindy Chen (Ashley Park), tells her that she “looks American,” Cooper starts to evolve her style. Her waves get a little smoother, her lipstick gets a little deeper, and her fashion shifts from wild prints to a chic muted palette that wouldn’t look out of place on the Metro. “She was girly and already had a sense of perfection. Naturally, she became a bit more sophisticated,” the show’s Paris-based lead makeup artist, Aurélie Payne, tells me. “All the details concerning her makeup, her hair, her clothes had to be at the top of fashion as she lived in Paris, the city of fashion.”

But Emily’s romanticized version of “French-girl” beauty — which is much more Audrey Hepburn than Caroline de Maigret — still doesn’t quite live up to that of her colleagues. “It’s that je ne sais quoi French feel and undone chic quality that feels quite European in comparison to Emily’s more ‘done’ look,” Desir says. “[Emily] feels everything is in place and has to look perfect and done, whereas the French ladies allow their hair to fall out of place and they embrace the imperfections.”

Whether you’re drawn to Emily’s Funny Face aesthetic or the “less is more” vibe of her colleagues, beauty tips (and Netflix baes) abound in this show. How To Prevent Hat Hair — The French Way

To achieve Emily’s glossy waves, which somehow never frizz under a parade of bucket hats and berets, Desir relied on Bumble & Bumble hairspray for “great hold and soft texture.” Instead of fixing her hat hair between scenes, he prevented it by styling her waves in a middle part, loosely twisting her front pieces back, and then placing the accessory on her head. That way, when Emily takes off her hat, her face-framing waves bounce right back into place. C’est beau.

With Skin Care, Consistency Is Key

Any French makeup artist will tell you: The best looks start with beautiful skin. “Keeping Lily’s skin perfect was my goal during those four months filming in Paris,” Payne tells me. “As a makeup artist for almost 20 years, I know that skin care is the most important everyday ritual before makeup. That’s why I needed the best products.”

Payne started by misting Quantum Botanika Herbal Water on Collins’ face before mixing the brand’s hydrating gel with a few drops of facial oil and thoroughly massaging the cocktail into her skin. (The line is from London-based facialist Nataliya Robinson and available in the U.K.) She prepped her lips with the brand’s lip balm, smoothed Collagena Hydrogel Patches (you’ll find them at French pharmacies or on Amazon) under her eyes, and then got to work on her makeup.

Perfect The Art Of Day-To-Night Makeup

According to Payne, the beauty look in Paris shifts once the sun sets on the Seine. “French-girl beauty is effortless during the daytime, but a bit more sophisticated in the evening. French girls always like to highlight [their] lips or eyes for a party — rarely both at the same time!” says Payne.

With that in mind, Payne kept Emily’s skin fresh and natural for day by mixing Dr. Barbara Sturm Glow Drops with Chanel Foundation Vital Lumière Aqua as her base. She tapped a tawny shade of Tom Ford cream blush from the apples of her cheeks to her eyelids and finished with a few swipes of Dior Pump Up The Volume Mascara.

While Emily is most frequently seen wearing rosy-nude lips (a winning combo of Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk and MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick), Payne says that her secret to a flawless red evening lip is as much about the color (she used Pat McGrath Matte Trance Lipstick in Obsessed) as it is the prep. “I applied a lip patch by Collagena before the lipstick to hydrate the lips,” says Payne.

Don’t Overthink Your Hair Accessories

Emily’s trip to the ballet at the Palais Garnier is a “magic moment” that Desir says was a direct wink to Audrey Hepburn’s iconic role. But what made the twinkly updo even more chic was the idea that Emily plucked a piece out of her jewelry box as a finishing touch. “We used a necklace as an accessory to sublime the updo,” says Desir, adding that the placement around the crown was key. “[It created] a pure line of highlight.”

Brow Highlighting Makes A Big Difference

Another major hint to Hepburn? Emily’s bold, square-shaped brows. While the actress brought her naturally bushy brows to set, Payne exaggerated their manicured shape by highlighting them with Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer in a shade lighter than her natural skin tone. Then, she brushed them up with Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel, and kept a spare in her kit to “fix Lily’s brows all day long.”

At the end of the day, Payne and Desir hope viewers expand their idea of “French-girl” beauty beyond one specific look, and instead focus on the confidence that truly sets Parisian women apart. “I hope that every girl watches Emily in Paris and identifies with Lily to know that everything is possible in life,” Payne says. “As you grow your confidence in your ability and your skills, you grow your confidence in your own natural beauty — inside and outside.”

Of all the things we never thought we’d miss about the “Before Times” Emmys, it’s the E! Mani Cam. Watching celebrities awkwardly fumble with their hands as they tip-toed down a miniature red carpet was exceedingly painful to watch — except for when Elisabeth Moss expertly flipped off the camera. Iconic.

But there was one detailed nail look from the 2020 Emmys that deserved its own Barbie-sized red carpet moment: Kerry Washington‘s flower nail art. The delicate blush pink manicure featured hand-painted watercolor blooms for the star’s “Little Flowers Everywhere” theme, a nod to her Emmy-nominated role as Mia Warren. The nail art perfectly matched the star’s white floral Oscar de la Renta gown, but it was nearly impossible to see on the grainy Zoom feed. Luckily, Washington’s nail artist Kim Truong came through and blessed us with a slideshow of close-up images.

In her Instagram caption, Truong revealed the exact color she used: Gelish Professional Polish in Pink Smoothie. Given the detailing and shading on these florals, it makes sense that Truong prepped them on press-ons ahead of time. She finished by sweeping on a matte topcoat, which made each nail look less like a cutesy sticker decal and more like a tiny piece of art.

This isn’t Washington’s first time wearing florals on the red carpet; the star is partial to the pattern for big Hollywood events. But this is the first time we’ve seen her take the trend all the way to her fingertips, making it much easier for us to copy than couture.

If you had told me one year ago, on my wedding day, that I’d be spending my first year of marriage living out of a car and traveling across the country with my now-husband, I probably would have laughed — then organized my gift registry a bit differently.

Instead, the Frette towels and matching Parachute robes that seemed so important to me at the time are locked away in storage, and I’m writing to you from my new home: a foldable twin XL mattress I bought on Amazon that’s nestled into the trunk of our car. The star-flecked sky of Zion National Park is glittering through the sunroof above me, and my hair is still dripping wet from the $4 coin shower I just took at a mountainside rest stop.

It’s not the 2020 I had planned (is anyone’s?), but it’s exactly what I need right now.

When the stress of, well, everything resulted in a shingles diagnosis a few months back, it was a much-needed wakeup call to prioritize my mental health and take a long overdue reset in nature. Within a few weeks, my husband and I decided to sublet our apartment, finance a car, and embark on a cross-country roadtrip. We’d continue working remotely, safely visit friends and family, and see where the road took us. With my offices closed because of COVID-19 until early January, we figured, If not now, when?

While hitting the big open highway (and managing my anxiety through telemedicine) has been deeply restorative and a privilege I know is not afforded to everyone, I’d be lying if I said it was all one big Tezza-filtered Instagram reel. Twice now, I’ve nearly peed my pants trying to find a safe public restroom amid COVID restrictions. I broke down in tears the night we had to drive down a dirt path until 1 a.m. in the pitch black because all the campsites in town were booked. Sometimes, after a cold five-minute shower, I really, really want those Frette towels.

But the one aspect of nomadic life that’s been surprisingly easy for me? My beauty routine. For an editor who’s been working in the cosmetics industry for the past decade, I am not what you would describe as “low-maintenance” when it comes to products. I have so many hairsprays and dry shampoos, I store the overflow in my kitchen cabinets. I recently pared down my red lipstick collection to what I consider to be a modest 25. The mailroom downstairs had to dedicate extra shelf space to handle the influx of product samples that arrive to my work on a daily basis.

But weirdly enough, the switch to a roadtrip routine has come naturally to me, and I’ve found a lot of comfort in the products I’ve hauled with me across multiple state lines. That being said, I do have some advice for anyone else considering a months-long, or even weekend-long, trip along Route 20, and it might not be what you’d expect. From camping towels to sheer sunscreens, check out my top tips ahead.

This Isn’t The TSA — Go Full Size

If there is one massive perk to ground travel, it’s the ability to pack whatever the hell you want without a grumpy security agent arguing over the last .05 ounces of your favorite serum. Skip the travel toiletries (which are bad for the environment anyway and cost way more in the long run) and go ahead and pack your glorious 8 oz. cleanser. Sure, it will take up a little more space in the car, but when you’re away from home and rinsing off in a public shower after a long, sweaty day of hiking, there is something truly comforting about squeezing out a handful without worrying if it’s going to last you through Sunday. I’ve been sticking to my longtime acne routine, below, and haven’t suffered a single travel breakout.

Commit To A Scent

Rose-scented shampoo and sandalwood body wash with a spritz of fruity texturizing spray might work at home, but within the confines of a 14×6-foot box hurtling down the highway, it’s a migraine waiting to happen. (I ditched my dry shampoo after one day because the scent made me so nauseous in the car.) Either go fully fragrance-free — your co-pilot will thank you — or stick to one scent story that everyone agrees on. Mine is coconut oil and shea butter, which smells heavenly to both me and my husband, and also keeps our skin and hair soft as we pass through the desert heat.

Flip-Flops Are Non-Negotiable

Take it from a kid who once caught plantar warts from walking around barefoot in a YMCA locker room: Extreme shower hygiene is a must — especially during COVID. Research the bathroom situation before you commit to a campsite, hotel, shower station, or Airbnb (if the Yelp review is less than three stars, run). Then, invest in a pair of cheap plastic flip-flops with high floor clearance; the last thing you want is murky shower water pooling around your ankles. Trust. Me.

Other essentials I recommend: a camping microfiber towel. No, it’s not the kind of big fluffy bathroom towel that makes you want to sit on your bed and stare aimlessly at the wall for hours, but it dries super fast so you can toss it in its mesh carrier without the smell of mildew ruining your trip. For hair, I can’t recommend Kitsch microfiber scrunchies enough; they soak up every last bit of moisture, minus the weird looks you’d get if you wore a towel on your head while driving down the interstate.

Finally, in the event you can’t get to a sink with running water, make sure you have a few liters of water in the car to stay hydrated and brush your teeth, and some face and body wipes on hand for quick clean-ups. I generally believe makeup wipes are the devil, but the Cetaphil ones work well in a pinch, without rubbing my sensitive skin raw.

Don’t Sit Out Sunscreen

Even the nicest UV-filtered car windows still let in plenty of harmful, skin-damaging rays. (Google ‘truck driver half-face study‘ if you want to be scarred for life.) But your typical outdoor sunscreen routine probably isn’t going to cut it. For one, this shit is like glitter — it gets everywhere. After a few hours, my seat, armrest, steering wheel, and door were covered in white residue. Now I stick with totally clear formulas, like Supergoop Glow Screen and Black Girl Sunscreen, which are easy to reapply with one hand while driving and don’t ruin my interiors. If you have a sun-roof, don’t make the mistake I did and forget scalp sunscreen. Ouch.

Lean Into The Heat

Lipsticks, foundation sticks, and other solids don’t enjoy a very long shelf life in the front seat of a hot car. Go for squeeze-tubes that allow you to control how much product you dispense at a time. (Just be careful when passing through high altitudes, as products tend to ooze out at a much faster rate.) My five-minute on-the-go makeup routine now consists of It Cosmetics CC cream, Maybelline Cheek Heat, and Clarins lip perfector — which all have a convenient squeeze tip and happen to look a little better when they’ve been sitting in the heat.

Whenever possible, though, store your products in a heat-resistant, waterproof bag (I love my Dagne Dover neoprene toiletry kit) and keep them stashed in the backseat away from the sun or, better yet, under the air conditioner in the seat beneath you. Bacteria love a warm, moist environment, and your roadtrip makeup bag is a petri dish waiting to happen.

Perfect The On-The-Road Air-Dry

Don’t bother packing a hair dryer — you probably aren’t going to use it. Instead, I’ve been using the last three months as an excuse to go heat-free, and my hair already looks so much healthier.

For me, it’s all about finding a shampoo and conditioner with plenty of moisturizing ingredients, raking a leave-in conditioner or defining cream through my waves, and then rolling down the windows. My silk pillowcase — I never travel without it — and satin-lined baseball cap help keep frizz to a minimum, and when all else fails: I just throw my hair up in a jumbo scrunchie. I keep one in every pocket, cupholder, and glovebox whenever I need to get loose strands out of my face — which is 97% of the time.

Take Your Face Mask The Extra Mile

If you’re clocking three to four hours in the car a day, you might as well use that time to get some mileage out of your favorite products. Smooth on a face or lip mask, pop on some teeth-whitening strips, rake a hair treatment through your ends — as long as it doesn’t interfere with your ability to focus on the road, it’s fair game. Nobody said your roadtrip had to be rustic — take it from a beauty editor.

A fierce LGBTQ+ advocate, Weitzner has fought tirelessly for domestic partner benefits and served as a board member for the Hetrick Martin Institute. After noticing the lack of resources for women experiencing menopause, Weitzner launched Pause Well-Aging, a skin-care line that aims to de-stigmatize the aging process.

I feel most powerful when…

I am righting what I perceive to be a wrong. As a veteran and C-Suite executive from the beauty industry, it was my first hot flash that really threw me for a loop. I realized that changes were coming, but I wasn’t ready for them. In speaking with my girlfriends, we all agreed that we had no idea what was ahead of us. Why was no one talking about menopause and preparing us for this life stage? Why was there so much shame associated with aging and going through menopause? It was as though beauty stopped being relevant at a certain age, and this was just not OK with me. Anti-aging is a word of the past and I’m here to convince women that beauty gets better with age. The taboo surrounding menopause will be eliminated if I have anything to say about it.  

Power to me means…

Power is being in control of your own destiny. Not having to rely on someone else for your success, but charting your own course. Power is also realizing that everyone can make a difference by holding true to their principles and never listening to anyone who says “it can’t be done.” I first saw the extent of my power when, as a very private 29-year-old, I had to confront an ex-military general to turn down a life-changing CFO job in Paris, France. The company didn’t offer domestic partner benefits and my partner would be uninsured if I accepted the position. Instead of this being a powerless moment, it became extremely powerful, as I became the business case for why domestic partner benefits make sense for the company and ultimately became the driving force for 100,000 employees gaining domestic partner benefits.

What do you do when you feel powerless?

The key for me is clearing my head. This usually means doing something physical like an intense workout or kayaking. With a clear head, I’m able to start again and regain my power.

What’s your power anthem?

That’s an easy one: Beyoncé’s “Run The World (Girls)!”

Who’s your power icon?

If I could only name one, it would have to be RBG. She is such a powerhouse in so many ways and her journey to get to where she is today is incredibly inspiring. My other icons are all badass women and they include: Oprah, Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda, Emma Thompson, Angela Bassett, Michelle Obama, and Rachel Maddow.

What do you wear when you want to feel powerful?

My custom-made boots, tight black plants, black pull over, and my Philipp Plein skull and studded necklace. It’s all black and makes me feel totally badass.

What do you do when you feel powerless?

“Living in the post-corona world, there is an overwhelming sense of powerlessness, given we are not able to control so much about our professional and personal lives. Lack of ability to see friends and loved ones can be incredibly isolating and frustrating.

“I’ve developed a meditation practice over the last six weeks which has been a really helpful release. It enables me to disconnect and, most importantly, to live in the present and take things one day at a time.”

What is your power anthem?

“So many! Last summer’s Whitney Houston “Higher Love” remix is the current favorite when we need a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.”

Who’s your power icon?

“We recently created a portrait wall of powerful women across industries and history that inspire us. Remembering the struggle and journey that these risk-takers faced in making change happen is a daily reminder that there are others before us who have paved the way. A few of them include – Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, RBG, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Princess Rani of Jhansi.”

What do you wear when you want to feel powerful?

“I’m a huge fan of the new power suit — a two-piece monochrome set, either in bright red or hot pink. Dressing head-to-toe in a single color is one of the easiest ways to elevate your look, and I like to mix up textures as well. The final touch is a good blow-dry — nothing like it.”
