Really, you can DIY anything, from a professional spray tan in your own bathroom to a facial in your kitchen. But if you're taking inspiration from your friends on Instagram, you might want to grab a nail file and a few bottles of polish and start with a DIY quarantine manicure.
Over the past three weeks, since the mandated nail-salon closures as a result of COVID-19, we've seen the "quarantine nails" tag take off. Following the hashtag leads to over 4,000 inspiration images, with the most popular design by far being the rainbow manicure with a different polish painted on each finger — both creative and arguably the easiest form of nail art.

One manicure we've seen reposted over and over again under the hashtag is this muted-rainbow color way by beauty blogger Overglowedit. Her caption, also fitting with the current April showers: "Making my own sunshine on another rainy day."This look isn't quite rainbow, but the candied pastel gradient with shaped almond tips has a similarly eye-catching effect. "One look at these, and I get filled with excitement from all the colors — even though what’s going on around me isn’t quite colorful," writes style influencer Cassanie.If you're thinking brighter, like borderline neon, take inspiration from this square-tipped rainbow design captioned, "Easter Vibes." (In case the days are blending together for you, Easter is a week from Sunday.)If your nails are trimmed short right now — maybe a conscious decision to curb the spread of bacteria during this pandemic — you might opt for this pastel glitter look, which the artist calls "Short, Colorful, & Sweet."This looks like a DIY polish job, but according to the caption, these cute marigold-speckled quarantine nails actually come courtesy of handy press-on strips from Dashing Diva — making yet another case for the nail-art stickers when the salon isn't an option.

If you thought the worldwide panic about the latest coronavirus was only complicating your love life and your plans to inspire FOMO at Coachella next month, think again. The anxiety around COVID-19 is further reaching than many initially thought, and its repercussions are playing out on a global scale.
The wildfire spread of the virus and the accompanying panic couldn’t have come at a worse time for the industry. March marks the beginning of blockbuster season, with a stream of exciting new films down the pipelines for audiences to shell out millions to watch. With its most lucrative release season at the mercy of the coronavirus, many films in Hollywood’s powerful 2020 lineup could be at risk of underperforming.
The French Dispatch
Wes Anderson’s “love letter to journalists” The French Dispatch has officially been moved to October 16. The film — which boasts a cast including Frances McDormand, Elisabeth Moss, Jeffrey Wright, and Timothée Chalamet in a bathtub — was originally set to debut July 24, making it one of the most highly-anticipated films of summer 2020. Instead, it will join the legions of other movies debuting when the leaves start to change. At least it gives us time to catch up on all the real-life journalists being depicted in the film, and finish our Wes Anderson summer reading list.
No Time to Die
Originally scheduled to hit theaters in April, the release date for Daniel Craig’s curtain call as the storied super spy has now been pushed back to November. Though the decision was tough to swallow — you mean to tell me that we have to wait eight months to meet the Black, female Bond? —Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Universal Pictures made the right call. China is a huge market for the film, and with the coronavirus currently spreading throughout the country at a rapid pace, it’s unlikely that MGM and Universal will pull the numbers that they need for the 007 flick if they released it right now.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway
The world loves the adventures of Peter Rabbit (voiced by James Corden), but Columbia Pictures Sony Pictures Animation aren’t willing to bet against COVID-19. The world premiere of the second chapter in the mischievous rabbit’s adventure has been moved to August 7, a full five months after its initial premiere date. Executives at both companies made the move after realizing that most of the first film’s viewership came from overseas; without those audiences, the sequel could potentially be a flop.
Night of Too Many Stars: America Unites for Autism Programs
Even good causes aren’t taking a chance with coronavirus. The star-studded charity event, Night of Too Many Stars: America Unites for Autism Programs, has been canceled in light of the pandemic. Slated to air live on HBO on April 16, the show was to feature standup acts from up-and-coming comedians as well as the greats; former TV host and comedian John Stewart was even supposed to make a rare return to the stage. Thanks a lot, COVID-19.
“Due to the current coronavirus situation, the China release date of the film Sonic the Hedgehog will be postponed, and we will re-announce the new release date at a later time,” Paramount Pictures’ China office announced in a statement. “Sonic will only be slowing down his pace temporarily, and we look forward to bringing him zooming onto the big screen in China once it is appropriate to do so.”
The Climb
This comedy film starred Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin as two friends and biking partners whose relationship is threatened by personal discoveries made on the road. While it premiered at Sundance last year, The Climb was set it hit theaters this July — but that’s not happening anymore.
A Quiet Place Part II
The sequel to the creepy 2018 thriller starring real-life couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski has officially been delayed because of the coronavirus. Part II would continue the silent but deadly journey of the Abbotts through their monster-hunted world, but fans will just have to wait to see how this story plays out because Paramount Pictures is putting its release on hold.
Director and star Krasinski shared a statement about the delay on Twitter. “One of the things I’m most proud of is that people have said our movie is one you have to see all together,” he wrote. “Well due to the ever-changing circumstances of what’s going on in the world around us, now is clearly not the right time to do that. As insanely excited as we are for all of you to see this movie .. I’m gonna wait to release the film till we CAN all see it together! So here’s to our group movie date! See you soon!”

The ninth and penultimate installment in the beloved action franchise has now been pushed back an entire year, set to premiere in theaters on April 20, 2021. The new date was supposed to be the debut of the final film, but Fast and Furious fans will have to return to theaters in 2022 to find out what happens to the ragtag band of friends. Fortunately, 2022 will not be the end of the franchise as we know it; Fast and Furious will likely continue with endless spinoff films.
Black Widow
After much hesitation, Disney decided to also indefinitely delayBlack Widow‘s May 1 premiere. The film mark’s Scarlett Johansson’s last hurrah as the ginger Avenger; it features a time jump after her character’s noble death in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Mulan
Most devastating could be the now-canceled March 27 release date of Disney’s live action remake of the 1998 animated film Mulan. Re-vamped with a storyline that is more culturally accurate (and a $200 billion budget to match), the new movie was designed specifically with Chinese audiences in mind. Unfortunately, the project’s premiere has now been delayed indefinitely. When it will hit theaters, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed to CNBC, no one knows.
Wonder Woman 1984
If you’re anything like me, you were probably eagerly anticipating Chris Pine’s return to the big screen as the beloved hero Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman 1984 — but you’re going to have to wait a few more months. The summer blockbuster starring Gal Gadot has been pushed back to August 14, with executives keeping their fingers cross that the virus will have cleared out by then.
No one knows how long COVID-19 will hold people hostage in their homes out of caution, but Hollywood is keeping their fingers crossed that fans of their related franchises will still hit the theaters en masse after the global panic quiets — whenever that is.

Gomez spoke about her diagnosis with Miley Cyrus on Instagram Live, as part of her “Bright Minded: Live” series that started up due to social distancing and Los Angeles’s shelter-in-place ruling.
“I went to one of the best mental hospitals… McLean Hospital and I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar,” the singer said. “And so, when I got to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn’t scare me once I know it, and I think people get scared of that, right?”
Gomez continued, “When I finally said what I was going to say, I wanted to know everything about it. And it took the fear away.”
Gomez added that she thinks learning more about the condition has helped her. “When I was younger, I was scared of thunderstorms and my mom bought me all these books on thunderstorms… She was like, ‘The more you educate yourself on this, the more that you’re not going to be afraid.’ It completely worked. That’s something that helps me big time,” she said.
Gomez said that she’s currently utilizing “the tools that I’ve used in therapy” during her past treatments for her mental health to help cope — especially with the time current uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Life update? Oh, nothing much to update you on here. I wasn’t even going to bother with a life update this month, seeing as though things have been so uneventful and dull…
Wait!
Sorry, was off in dreamland again. Trying to find some escape from the world crisis and the emotional pressure cooker that is my own home. Jeez Louise, what a shitty month!
It seems slightly petty to follow the usual trajectory of my life updates, which tend to start with something ridiculous and then move onto all of the things about parenthood that seem to constantly take me by surprise. I could tell you about how my youngest (three years and two months old) has started to say his little sentences with comically clear and crisp pronunciation – “Mummy, no T-reeees in the Ocean?” – and I could bang on for hours about Miss Clever-Clogs (five in June) and the way she’s suddenly got the hang of reading. The b-u-g was under the r-u-g.
But I have an overwhelming sense of feeling a little bit removed from reality at the moment. As a family we’re stuck in our own little bubble, here, more than ever before (I mean the combination of having young kids and moving out to the sticks is always going to isolate you whether you like it or not!) and it’s difficult to know what to write about. Are we all experiencing the same lockdown, wherever we are in the country or the world, or are we each having entirely different times?
Here’s what I’ve been up to for the last three-ish weeks (we’re on day 19 of our family self-isolation now): I’ve been a teacher, a mediator and a comforter, I’ve played shopkeeper, I’ve played cinema owner, I’ve invented eight different trampolining competitions and created numerous obstacle courses around the garden. I’ve watched Mulan, Toy Story 4 and Lady and the Tramp (Disney+, what a lifesaver!) and I’ve sat through hours of CBeebies. I’ve made a dragon out of a toilet roll holder, I’ve planted apple pips that will likely never grow, I’ve been inventive with food ingredients and then had to give the rejected meals to the chickens and I’ve had to give myself an emergency crash course in “having patience”.
Because it’s all just wearing a little bit thin, isn’t it? Being in such close proximity to others, even though they are (hopefully) the people you love the most. If you have small beings around then I won’t need to tell you that the work involved is constant and relentless; although I have to say I’m starting to get into the swing of it a little bit now. I just have to accept that I can’t really get much work done – even if I have the pocket of time freed up to work, I don’t have the all-important transitional period that you need to switch from mum-mode to work-mode.
So I’ll keep this update relatively brief – I’m not sure I have anything particularly novel to add, other than that I almost set fire to my foot with one of those electric pedicure things. You know the ones with the sandpaper that spins round? I was a bit over-zealous with it and now I have a slight dent in the ball of my foot and the bathroom smells of burning flesh.
Oh, it is grim this Covid situation, but I’m trying to retain a sense of humour. So many lives lost, so many jobs lost, so many lives changed forever – and nobody was expecting it at all. I think that’s the biggest shock. And I feel so all at sea with it, as though my little family unit is just bobbing along in this massive ocean where there’s no land in sight and no way of really knowing what’s going on…does everyone feel this way?
It’s hard to know whether any of the people in charge are doing the right thing, or doing certain things for political gain, or making colossal mistakes – I’d rather like for there to be a huge loud voice in the sky that would suddenly boom out, as though over a giant tannoy, and say
“hello world! This is your captain speaking!”
Wouldn’t that be amazing?
“Hello, Ladies and Gentleman. This is your captain speaking. My apologies for that rather bumpy takeoff – you’ll have noticed that I didn’t make any announcements; the crew and I had your safety as our primary concern and so we decided to concentrate on the control panel rather than lose all of your fucking lives in one colossal go! Anyway, we’re now cruising along at a steady RO of 0.9, having flattened the curve, and so long as you all stay with your proverbial seatbelts on then I have every confidence that we’ll have a successful landing in a new, very changed but very pleasant land.”
I just want someone to be in charge. I’d even turn religious if it meant that some Godlike figure would take control and pop his/her head out of the clouds to make wise decisions!
I must go. I’ve done my knee in on the trampoline and it’s the same side as the foot fire incident, so I’m off for a soak.
