Help Bic With Research and Development When You Shave With Their AI Razor

No matter what you do online or where you go with your smartphone in tow, it's highly probable that some company somewhere is gathering data about you. It's just a fact of life in the digital age we live in. But now, Bic wants to get even closer to your daily habits and behaviors by tracking how you shave.

At this year's CES in Las Vegas, Bic unveiled a new prototype of a manual, multi-blade razor boosted with artificial intelligence thanks to its collaboration with GPS manufacturer Invoxia. It's the “Next Bic Thing” for the company, but don't worry — they're not looking to drop this tech into any old razor so they can spy on your personal bathroom habits. Rather, consumers must choose to opt-in to the research by signing up as a member of the “Bic R&D Squad” at the Next Bic Thing website. In turn, users can give the brand new shaver a spin and simultaneously help Bic develop and hone new shaving technology by providing data about the way that they shave.

So what, exactly, does the non-motorized razor track? With each shave, it will take notes on how long it takes you to shave, how many strokes you use on each part of your face — your sideburns, mustache, chin and neck — and even how much water you use to rinse the blade. It will also factor in air temperature, humidity, blade dullness and hair density. The information gets sent to Bic through the connected smartphone app where you can browse all the interesting data for yourself as well. It's a refreshing bit of transparency in an age where most of our activities tend to be tracked without our knowledge or consent.

Voluntarily joining the Bic R&D Squad is just the first step in the company's big market research and development plan, however. As it collects insights and feedback with its A.I. razor and analyzes the way consumers use their products, the brand will be better equipped to adapt to your wants and needs. And who wouldn’t want a better razor with a closer, more comfortable shave?

If you're interested in joining the squad and giving the razor a try, you can sign up now at the Next Bic Thing.
